It's a "Gotcha" game. The whole point of this non op bull is to remove older vehicles from the road. Sell them to out of state buyers.

It's printed on EVERY registration form: "Check this box for planned non operation". You cant miss it, it's not like the information is hidden or its some kind of secret. There is no excuse for not doing it. It applies to all vehicles here, not just older cars. When you don't do it, you suffer the consequences just like anything else.

I think it's a great law. Because of folks' negligence I have been able to fund every aspect of my project.

I think it's ridicules a person has to pay the state for NOT driving/registering their car!

The one-time $10 non-op charge keeps the vehicle in the system so it's easy to get it re-licensed later. Seems simple enough.

I understand that, but my Virginia vehicle title keeps the vehicle in the system without handing over 10.00 a year.

Title is all the paper I need. It's revenue acquisition plain and simple. They hope you'll overlook it and then GOTCHA.

Plenty of folks in the rest of the country will buy a rust-free truck or car from the Peoples Republic of California as long as you have a title in your name.

I'm certainly no fan of California's system of taxes, fees, and fines (hatzie's comments above are spot-on), but you guys seem to have missed the part about the $10 non-op being a one-time fee, not an ongoing annual $10 charge. This was also posted above by leddzepp. Yes, $0 is cheaper than $10..... just as $10 one time is cheaper than $10 every year.

$10 is chicken feed. Bums make more than that in 30 mins of panhandling. Folks will always find something to complain about no matter what. It's 84 degrees today, and I'm wearing shorts and a t shirt...I love the people's republic of California, you couldn't pay me to live anywhere else!
