You're making some nice progress.

That is a sweet looking engine. It looks like a fresh build?

In what town in Minnesota did your Grandfather live? My family is from Northern Minnesota.

Yes the engine just came back from the machine shop, and in Perley, MN which is about 20 miles north of the Fargo-Moorhead area. And we still live one the same farm it was brought home to.

My mom and dad grew up down in the Battle lake area. Then in '92 they moved back, but to Paul Lake outside of Perham.

Finally got some time in back in the shop, took the front clip apart to fix the rust on the inner fenders and the core support. Got my champion 3 run radiator and a ton of other parts. The trans is at the transmission shop getting rebuilt. I've got pictures of just the engine with different valve covers and fixing the rust on the core support. And also if anyone knows how I can mount this radiator it would be much appreciated.

Update: Just got back from a trip and immediately went out to the shop because of how much I was missing it. I got the frame notched out to allow the radiator to drop down into the new saddle mounts that I have to make.

Then I pushed it outside to get a picture and sweep out the bed.

Then I had to grind all the bed bolt heads off because they would spin when you went to turn them, and 3 of us lifted the bed off and set it next to my pickup In my shop.

I got the drums off to redo all the rear brakes, and the seals and bearings in the rear end. The brake pads were worn down to the metal. I already have the new drums and springs for the rear brakes.

Finally got the trans back from getting rebuilt, ended up costing way more than expected, live and learn. Bolted it up the engine and got the mounts tacked in after quite a bit of modification. The first picture is just it sitting in there, the second id with the core support, radiator, and water pump put on. Third is a picture of me with the engine my dad took. Tomorrow I'm going to get the welds burned in and box in the mounts. Thanks

Just a FYI....That radiator is supposed to sit on the top flange of the crossmember, not the lower flange. The lower flange is for the smaller 6 cyl radiator. I would install it on the top flange, especially since you are running the long water pump.

Yes sir.
The radiator vents will line up at the top of the radiator with the opening in the radiator support. The top of the radiator should stand a few inches taller than the support, as there is a hold down bracket that will go across the top of the radiator itself, and marry up with the hood latch bracket on the top of your headlight and grille support.

How do you like the radiator after you finished it? Does it keep it plenty cool? And also I'm going to be running an electric fan that is an option when you order the radiator, was that a good choice? Thanks for the help!

Been a while an got a lot done. Since my last post I have gone through all the suspension, put the springs in, all new bearing and seals in the rear axle. I ordered 2.5 rear drop, and 1.5 front drop springs. All new brake lines, and then everything got blasted and painted. I also put new bushings in the trailing arms and the track bar. I have been working on mounting the radiator recently, building the mounts, next thing is to get the firewall cleaned up and painted, and then it will be time to start putting her together for good.Attachment 1284516

After all that I got the cab corners on and the filler neck how closed up with a homemade plug. Then I have all the pictures of the front suspension and the radiator mounts I made.

I've been trying to get a lot done before school starts, I got the engine in for good, I hope, everything bolted in. I got all the rest of the parts for the front suspension and steering. Rebuilt the steering box and found a combination of water and goop and other substances. I bought myself lokar cut-to-fit throttle and kickdown cables. I am very happy with how they turned out, and how nice of quality they are. Then the other night I took apart my gauges and cleaned everything up really good, I am planning on repainting a couple things including the bezel and the needles. Now just some pictures, Enjoy!

How hard was the steering box to disassemble and reassemble? Have a lower shaft leak and debating repair vs. replace.

It was very interesting, cleaning it was the hardest part. Seals are super easy to do. When you reassemble you have to drop in the shaft that the pitman arm connects to perfectly, and clock it right with the worm gear center. Then you cannot spin it until you put the pitman arm on and get it clocked right. Easier than it sounds. And I just used 80-90w gear oil, hasn't leaked a drop. I'm 17 and i did it on my first try, Good Luck!

Finally finished up the passenger side floorpan. And I got started on the DS. I did the first attempt when I was 13, and I could not sleep at night knowing how absolutely terrible it was. So I cut it back out and will be redoing everything. I got a few pieces welded up the other night, and trust me when I say it looks better in person. I also went to work trying to fix my driver door, but I knew that it would not pound out decently. I had bought an original door, but after finding several gallons of bondo I decide to use a chuck out of the bad one and put it into mine. Fully tig welded in and it will need very little filler to be very nice. So here's some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Cab is flipped down after undercoating the entire bottom, and painting the frame rails. Wired the engine and all of the accessories. I put a ton of work into the exhaust. The "kit" was not even close and nearly everything had to be reworked. Everything was tig welded, and they all actually looked good. I tiged bolts onto the headers so that a third hand is not needed when putting the pipes on. I ran all new steel line lines from the bed mounted tank. Primed the engine an lit it off for the first time this past weekend. Sounds absolutely amazing, the hearthrob mufflers combined with the comp high energy cam made everything worth it. I have graduation this coming weekend and many people are coming to see, hear, and if I can allow it drive the pickup. I still have to do a ton of stuff. But my goal of having it running is completed. Once the driveshaft is in and the brakes are finished I can take it on its maiden voyage with no doors, hood, or fenders while sitting on a bucket. I also go the new radio hole welded in and you barely know it has been done. I am very proud of how it turned out.

I did not like how the firewall paint looked or the paint on the interior....So the cab came back off and I sandblasted the whole thing inside and out. I left the bottom of it be because I was very pleased with how it turned out. I made a big parts order that I am waiting on. Also the new job is pretty awesome. I've spent quite a bit of time working on this 54 chevy. 383, 4 speed manual, 9 inch , and its on bags. I build the exhaust complete with side dump electric cutouts.Very jealous of the owner, he said he plans on destroying a set of tires within the first week lol.
