65' Chevy C10
Hey Everyone! This is my first thread and also my first project. My Grandpa bought this bare bones 1965 Chevrolet C10 BRAND NEW back in the day! He used around our farm in northern Minnesota for everything from hauling cows around to hauling grain, and even going to pick up my dad from the Hospital when he was born. It has a 230 I6, with a 4 speed manual tranny. The pickup was sold to my dad in the 80's who sold it to my uncle for driving Beet truck for him. Then 3 Years ago my uncle sold the pickup to me. The week i got it i got it running and had some fun with it. Since then i have done lots of sheet metal work, and grew my knowledge and passion for cars. And gotten my dad sucked into buying other older cars. The picture below is of it when we went to pick it up.
Thanks for viewing, Enjoy! This was originally on the main board.

Re: 65' Chevy C10
This is my first update. The first picture is old, but is from when I took the doors off to do the new floorpan on both sides. Then the second picture is what the passenger side looked like when I got the rocker panel off, it was pretty horrible! Then the last picture was pretty resent, from when I finished the driver side. I just have to get a few things on the door. Currently I am replacing the cam and lifters, and working on the floor on the passenger side

Re: 65' Chevy C10
When my uncle had it he some how hit a mail box, so there was about 3/4" of bondo ontop of the dent. On the otherside its the same way, but on the other side the pickup slid into the ditch on the way out to the mailbox.

Re: 65' Chevy C10
Very cool, I also have my grandfather's 65 that he bought new. It was my grandfather's daily driver until he passed away in 1999. The truck was given to my uncle and I purchased it from him in 2005. I finally have the funds to restore it the way it should be. I'm going to try to get a thread started with pictures on it soon. Look forward to seeing how yours turns out.

Re: 65' Chevy C10
Update time!!
Well today I got the bottom of my driver door patched, and finally picked up my carburator from getting rebuilt by a pro. The next thing is to get my camshaft swap done, but I need to press on the gear. I still have to pickup some random gaskets. After that I have to finish up patching the passenger side. And get her back on the road Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 65' Chevy C10
This week i've been working on the front brakes, took them apart, cleaned and painted the back plate and started putting it back together but of course im waiting for parts. I do have one question for whomever reads this, when i change out the front drums how do I A. Get the hub onto the new drum, B. Get the roller bearings outer piece out of the hub to replace it with new bearings i got? I'll take anything for answers. Take a look!

Re: 65' Chevy C10
I've got an heirloom truck also. It's really neat when you "know" the original owner!
Progress is coming right along too!

You have to use a long punch and knock them thru on the inside of the hub...make sure you use new races when you replace the bearings...you really need a manual |

Re: 65' Chevy C10
The Shop finally opened up today and I didn't waste any time. Since my last post I have decided to put in a 350 4 bolt with dart heads, intake, and an edelbrock 650 ec 4 barrel. I am getting a 700r4 to put behind it to get decent gas mileage. I am lucky enough to have a dad that accumulates parts so I have many of the little parts here. But tonight I got it halfway torn down, the engine is very close to being pulled out. I did all of it by myself so my back does not like me. The last picture is a new toy I got last week.

Re: 65' Chevy C10
Love the story and the truck. Coming along very nice. I like your plan. I am keeping the little 283 and using a 700R4 also for the mileage.

Re: 65' Chevy C10
Nice work, btw that service manual is quite handy. I got mine on a PDF from a website "detroitiron". I have one for my 61 and 66. Makes it very easy to work with my iPad and some tools in the garage.

Re: 65' Chevy C10
Day 2, I got the engine and transmission pulled today. The cleaned up the frame somewhat, and took off the motor mounts. After that I got my dads plasma cutter and cut out the old transmission cross member. The first picture is just the pickup missing the engine, and the second is me cutting out the trans cross member.

Re: 65' Chevy C10
Day 3, I spent time on the engine today and did some investigating. I thought that it was just plain on the inside, I guess not. I found out that it has I-beam eagle connecting rods, comp cam, rocker rollers, and I already knew but really nice Dart heads and Intake. I don't know what the horsepower will be but I'm hoping for the 375-400 horsepower range. I was able to also track down a 700r4 at a local junk yard for a 100 bucks. And I am going to pick it up on Wednesday and am going to immediately drop it off at an A1 transmission shop to get rebuilt. Tonight I got the engine painted and a few things put on the top end. The pictures are just of the engine, and the roller rockers.

Re: 65' Chevy C10
Not to sound like a jerk but, I would have restored this truck. You can always find a truck for cheap but you can never find one that has been in your family since new. It is and will be a nice truck but fully restored back to factory original would be better for this truck IMO. By the way nice work on the body!
