Re: In line filter suggestions?

I am so glad I found this thread again (even more glad the forum allows one to read through all the threads they started).

I am officially dropping my plans for an extra filter under the cab.

I was going to go with 3/8th inch tubing for the supply to the pump but now I think I'll just use 5/16th inch like it had before.

QUESTION: I used 3/8th inch from the tank through the floor so I could use a 3/8th inch shut off valve I had. Is there a 3/8th inch to 5/16th inch connector?

NEVERMIND!

I found this:

I like the clear plastic inline filters in the engine bay after the pump easier to spot any fuel issues

I always use the GM filters that use the O ring fittings. The flow well, filter well and will not leak. Also every autoparts store has them. They are Stainless steel so you could polish it if you wanted to. Wix pn# is 33481. Also a late 60's ford coil bracket works well to mount the filter.

Dang that looks nice!

I'm still tempted to do the same thing (or something similar) but so many people on here think it's overkill since the sending unit has a sock and the 6 cylinder carb has its in-carb filter.

If your carb has a filter (like a Q-Jet) then it should be plenty. The in carb filters do a great job at filtering which is what they are suppose to do. It does not matter how many filters you have before it, if it fails then you have junk in the carb.

The stock GM fuel system is more than capable of filtering and supplying fuel to your engine unless you are running 9 second 1/4 mile times. Then things just need to be bigger.

I agree! All of these little filters people add drives me nuts. If your tank is rusty, replace or clean it. If your lines are rusty inside you can bend all new ones and get new rubber hoses and stainless clamps for less than $25.

I hear you man. I was going to put an extra filter rather like the one you've shown here but it's just too much trouble. Besides, I have 250 I6 with mechanical pump and most people told me not to.

I had my tank "renewed" so that's good. I am about to finish up bending all new Poly Armor lines. I had my carb rebuilt. I put on a new Carter fuel pump yesterday. I have a new sending unit from Tucker.
