Re: 56 Mild Custom Build
Ok I know alot of people won't like the paint job I'm doing on the 56 pickup but I've been wanting to do one for awhile so here it is. I still haven't wetsanded it to bring the "patina" out.
Satin black base coat/primer http://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2369b132.jpg And then a satin top coat http://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1dd932c7.jpg And the hood http://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8880e9c1.jpg Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 56 Mild Custom Build
Got the hood and grill on and pushed it out to dry in the sun. Should be dry enough tomorrow so I can start wet sanding it. But so far I'm liking how it turned out.

Re: 56 Mild Custom Build
Got a couple of hours tonight in it wet sanding the "patina" out. It's actually pretty fun to do, I think the key is not to go to crazy on the sanding. Should finish it up in the morning.

Re: 56 Mild Custom Build
They key is to also sand in a circular motion to try and emulate the look of oxidized paint. If you study it closely, you'll see the small circles it tends to group in when the sun fades it naturally. I'm doing the same finish on my 56 so I've been paying very close attention to how the sun has faded through the paint on our 55 sedan so I can copy it when the time comes.
It's looking good so far!!! |
Re: 56 Mild Custom Build
Done. And my arms are sore from all the wet sanding. Now just got to paint the bed.

the more you look at it, the more your brain is going to think " maybe a bit more here, and a little there" You're definitely getting the right look going here.
Here are a few samples of the fauxtina and some real rusty aged patina |

I am torn between doing a fo-patina or not. I love the natural patina of my truck and have thought about trying to imitate it after I fix the cab corners, etc. I also love to finished look, so not sure what I'm going to do. That's a while down the road for me though.

Re: 56 Mild Custom Build
I like it! Some people dont get the patina look. my wife for instance! Project is going really good.

Re: 56 Mild Custom Build
I like how this is turning out. I ssume that you will not be clearing over the fuaxtina? I made this assumption based on the fact that you were using enamel.
I have been kicking around doing somthing simular with my next project. Looks good. Marc |
Re: 56 Mild Custom Build
I've been following this from the start because I'm using the same process for the paint on my shop truck build.
It's looking really good man, thanks for keeping us up to date with this project. |

Re: 56 Mild Custom Build
yep, pretty much the same reason i decided to do what I'm doing. If I wanna use my fender to hold my beer, I don't want to have to worry about scratching the paint. Plus I think it just looks cool

Re: 56 Mild Custom Build
Started getting the glass in.
Fitting the one piece window channel to glue it. http://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/...pscfb679c7.jpg http://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/...ps179420f5.jpg Installing the back glass http://i1320.photobucket.com/albums/...psc318802a.jpg Posted via Mobile Device |
