Got a couple of hours tonight in it wet sanding the "patina" out. It's actually pretty fun to do, I think the key is not to go to crazy on the sanding. Should finish it up in the morning.

Re: 56 Mild Custom Build

They key is to also sand in a circular motion to try and emulate the look of oxidized paint. If you study it closely, you'll see the small circles it tends to group in when the sun fades it naturally. I'm doing the same finish on my 56 so I've been paying very close attention to how the sun has faded through the paint on our 55 sedan so I can copy it when the time comes.

It's looking good so far!!!

Done. And my arms are sore from all the wet sanding. Now just got to paint the bed.

Just a custom mixed single stage enamel from the local paint shop.

the more you look at it, the more your brain is going to think " maybe a bit more here, and a little there" You're definitely getting the right look going here.

Here are a few samples of the fauxtina and some real rusty aged patina

I am torn between doing a fo-patina or not. I love the natural patina of my truck and have thought about trying to imitate it after I fix the cab corners, etc. I also love to finished look, so not sure what I'm going to do. That's a while down the road for me though.

I like how this is turning out. I ssume that you will not be clearing over the fuaxtina? I made this assumption based on the fact that you were using enamel.

I have been kicking around doing somthing simular with my next project.

Looks good.

I've been following this from the start because I'm using the same process for the paint on my shop truck build.
It's looking really good man, thanks for keeping us up to date with this project.

Thanks.. Yea no clear coat. I used enamel paint because that's what they used originally and the paint job should age nicely.
