Ha...somehow not even then, if you noticed how much “stuff” I hauled out. It was getting jammed.

Re: Finally...a new shop at the house

But Doug, I’d sure like the chance to try and fill that much space up.

But just an FWIW, I have another 21x24’ enclosed building, a 24’x18” Garage & a 24”x24” carport full of car related stuff too.

Re: Finally...a new shop at the house

Well, after some discussion with a good buddy, a/c is in the very near future. Hope to start the install by the end of the week :happyhappyjoyjoy:

My reasoning: 88 degrees outside today for the high, just came out of the shop (@18:40) and it was 85. It’s not even hot yet & the humidity is ridiculous!!!

Advanced Design 05-15-2018 08:13 PM

Re: Finally...a new shop at the house

That sounds like a great idea! Any ideas yet on what type of system you will use?

nlped 05-15-2018 09:32 PM

Re: Finally...a new shop at the house

I’m going with an 8-ton unit. It includes indoor, outdoor & strip heat. Has a 10-10 warranty...& makes COLD AIR.

mongocanfly 05-15-2018 09:38 PM

Re: Finally...a new shop at the house

yeah ac would be nice....I was in one of thise "hot.box" shops today sweating my butt off.....I've been thinking of doing geothermal cooling for mine...still studying on it. ...

nlped 05-15-2018 09:44 PM

Re: Finally...a new shop at the house

Yeah, with the rocky a$$ soil here, I don’t foresee geothermal being cost effective. Yeah, the hot months may be a bit spendy, but the rest of the year shouldn’t be bad. Cold doesn’t really bother me, so I think the annual cost of running the system should be pretty tolerable.

Hell, I’ll sell off a few projects if that’ll keep myself cool. ;)

I’ve started the a/c install today. I got the disconnects wired, the outdoor pad laid for the outside unit & airhandler wired. Hope to get all of this finalized so I can get the a/c up and running after the holiday.

Re: Finally...a new shop at the house

Nice! Will you have duct work to disperse the cool air?

nlped 05-27-2018 10:30 AM

Re: Finally...a new shop at the house

Yeah! My buddy that got me these pieces owns a commercial hvac company and is going to build my duct work. I’m going to do some work on his 74 Bronco in trade, but I told him not until the cold air starts happening. I’m excited about the temperature drop, but truly stoked about the humidity drop. It’s like a steam sauna now that the humidity and heat are back in the south.

The outside unit is placed, power has been run to the disconnects for both it & the indoor air-handler. Hope to have the rest in place and up & running by the weekend. Sure will be nice to be able to knock the edge of this d@mn heat & most of all...the miserable humidity.

I'm originally from Cullman and lived in Hayden until a year ago when I moved further south to Morris.

Back to regularly scheduled programming... but my new local friends are certainly invited down for a beer and truckin’.

I’m hoping to have some time to get the rest of the a/c stuff finalized. I won’t be able to get it charged up, but hoping to have it ready by 1st of the week.

HVAC is installed & cooling. 95 degrees outside and high a$$ humidity has been reduced to 78 degrees and 37% humidity inside!!! Woo Hoo

Lmao! Beyond the actual building and the keyless entry...this is the best $$$ spent.

Congratulations! Gotta feel great.

I was in the shop today and the sweat was dripping to the floor in rivers. Ugh...

nlped 06-10-2018 08:05 PM

Re: Finally...a new shop at the house

^^^ Thanks Doug! I still have to finalize the duct work, but it’ll keep the shop 78 degrees easily & the humidity has become extraordinarily tolerable. But I spent all day today bush hogging the 100 acres around the house, shop & pond. Did I mention the tractor is without a/c ... :(

nlped 06-10-2018 08:08 PM

Re: Finally...a new shop at the house

Gotta try and get everything finalized in the shop tomorrow morning, because we are going over to the Hoover met for the HotRod Powertour stop.

Duct work is halfway done... I had no idea how miserable this was going to be... heat likes to rise to the top of the shop & Alabama has some serious heat & humidity this time of year. But I know it’ll be fantastic when finished.

Dang that's gonna be nice! The heat/humidity has definitely been miserable lately.

Yes sir it certainly has been. Fwiw, I use to live in Morris and my kids graduated from Jordan!

Well, I decided I’d better put some discharges on the other side between the lights, so this half of the shop got 2 more tonight. And I got the beam-drop tonight, so I’m hoping to finish up this weekend (tomorrow hopefully).

Nothing really picture worthy, but I got some plugs installed up high for my birthday presents...extension cord reels. They’ll be super handy & out of the way at the same time.
