Started stripping paint of the box sides... Encountered about a half inch of glass/filler. Previous tail end repair was brazed together. Lot of warping. Looks like I'll be slicing a piece of the parts truck.

Another one. Can't get at the back side to dolly it out... Shy of cutting it.

Thought I'd update this thing while I'm havin a beer and starin at it again.. Box all tore apart and stripped of paint. Even had a helper for an afternoon. (what are we gonna do today Dad?) The inner box support rails were rotten. (the part that rests on the wood floor) Dug out the metal brake and bent up some repair pieces.

Back to the truck again.. cut a tail bed corner off my parts truck to replace the damaged one I found covered in filler while stripping paint. It was damaged as well on the lower side. So some is replacement... some is fabbed up.

Hey zicc.. I've made an LED light bar I'm flush mounting in the rollpan... below the tail gate. 1" x 64" wide made from 4 individual multi LED light bars. Will appear as a continous light bar... full width with park lights on. But using sequencial flasher setup for signals..( inner flashes.. outer flashes.. etc)

Had some steel repair to do behind the wheel openings.. the goodmark repair panel I got my hands on fit like absolute crap. What a piece of garbage. Rear indent below tail lights non existent... and 45 deg. bend along the wheel opening not to be found either. I used pieces of it... but it took lots of reworking to make anything of it.. pittiful really..

Thanks zicc!..
I won't take it to heart if anyone calls me mentally challenged for this one.. lol The tailgate I'm using was bowed.. like 1.5". There was only one way I could see to really get it straight again... so I split it. Drilled the spot welds.. zip cut along the top.. and split it all apart. After several hours with a hammer, block and a dolly, I think it's useable now. Rust removed/sealed from the inside.. and welded back together. Finished fabbing the cover plate for the reverse handle setup I made

I tack welded the gate skins to cross sills from the truck bed.. after verifying straight/true. This kept everything true as I welded it back together. Just finishing up the bodywork on the gate ... should be spraying some primer in the next day or 2. Box assembly will follow.. and my lightbar/rollpan setup.

Thanks..Lol... it'll come brother. I've spent lots of years working on gravel driveways and in unheated barns before I built this one

I really enjoy your thread. Your grill looks different, yet slightly familar, more modern, (which usually bothers me,) yet old style. Really like it. I to have been looking for that portion below the taillight where someone has hit mine. I have discovered all the replacements are flat, and dont have the body lines. Why wouldnt they make a proper patch repair? That makes no sense to me? Keep up the good work.

Thanks... I haven't compared a triplus panel yet. Usually they fit ok. I figured this patch panel was for the wrong year at first.... Nothing lined up at all.

Your craftsmanship is really impressive. Some of the mods you did such as the skull in the console and the grill are not necessarily something I would do to my car, but you did a hell of a job on all of them. Real nice work.

Another update... built a wood frame to enable box assembly. The frame rests on a cab cart so I can roll it around. The LED tail light assembly I made is 4 individual lights, fiberglassed to 1" x 60" plate(1/8" thick) 5/16" rod welded to backside for mounting. Some 18g was broke into a channel shape to act as a recessed holder for the light. Holes drilled through it for lightbar mounting bolts.. and end caps fabbed up

To make room for the bar assembly within the roll pan.. the license plate area had to be reworked. New holes cut for license plate lights too.

Looks like you have enough space on each end of brake lights to insert small white lights. Not duable?

Ya... That was the plan. Tryin to source a light that fits it all . I'm shaving the square marker lights off as well. I'm goin to fit some small bullet style markers in off a '68 charger/monaco. Always liked them.

Re: Project NiteMare-1970 C10 LWB build

Find a couple 800 lumen flash lights and gut them, and throw an extra power toggle switch to them to, it might get people to stop tailgating you someday if you flip the switch on them. :)
