Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
Slammed, I will admit this project broke my spirit for building cars. I have lost all motivation. I'm at the point that I just want this thing out of my garage, and out of my life. Once the engine fires and lets some smoke out of the tires, I may change my mind. Hopefully soon!

My friend you are just now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. take a month or two off and give your self a break, you got most of all the hard work done. you will get the itch again. it will pay off, I promise you my brother you've come to far to walk away. we'll talk soon bud

Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
heck yeah, don't stop now! that little lady is turning out seeeexxxy.
i enjoy the build as much or more than the driving/use. some bits more than others. like paint, HARD pass  there's a reason my truck will launch as a patina ride. if i ever decide i want it pretty like yours i'll have to pay someone |
Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
I found a little motivation. Made a bracket for the Dakota Digital boxes and some relays. Don't know yet what I need relays for, but they're there if I need them.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d02207ea_c.jpg Installed and wired. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ea51f5fa_c.jpg Got the dash stuff all wired up. I'm going to install the wiper switch in the hole left of the gauges. The cable wasn't long enough, so I will have to extend it. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...530cec2c_c.jpg |
Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
Like the bracket and look of everything. I am only ib the beginning of my 57 Big Back Window build but yours has plenty of ideas. Look forward to the rest of the build. Steve

Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
Looks like a decent location for the PCM. Will keep in mind when I am to that point. Looking good. Steve

Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
I found some garage therapy time this week.
I blasted and sprayed the exhaust manifolds with Cerakote. I was hoping for gloss, a little disappointed, but the still look good. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9a602bdc_c.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...19bd425b_c.jpg I got the engine harness sorted out. Everything is laid out, hot wires extended for a relay box. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d9cc1ea8_c.jpg Made a bracket for the relay box https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...357a5269_c.jpg Where it's going to get installed: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...23bb6c89_c.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...24a10d9b_c.jpg Back to wiring.. |
Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
Manifolds look good. I get concerned on how long before it burns off. I also like your electronics mounting spot. That is the side my pcm/relays will go. Steve

Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
Thats where GM put them, so I'm did the same. I know a lot of guys try to put them in the cab, but I wasn't interested in pulling bundles of wire through the firewall. Sooner or later I have to decide what wires to pull through the firewall and start drilling.

Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
Thanks guys. Trying to get the last few wiring parts figured out and ordered. So close to putting heat in this engine:burnout:

Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
Looking good. I see you are using shrink bands in place of hose clamps. I love those. If you wipe them with lacquer thinner the part #'s that are printed on them come right off. Maybe I'm too anal, but I always do that to mine.

Magnaflow. Over the winter I will build a stainless exhaust with cats and x-pipe.

Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
Wiring done:metal:
There is very little room to cram modern amenities behind the dash of these trucks. I call this bracket the sooper dookie. It is the basis of stuffing 10lbs of caca into a 1 lb satchel. It mounts to the bottom lip of the dash, and the wiper motor bracket. It holds the radio, a/c ecu, alarm module, and a home made ground block. And the a/c duct hoses hang from it. The alarm is used for the power locks. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...ab9b59eb_c.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...689e36f9_c.jpg The restomod air VapirII ready to be stuffed up behind the dash. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...8c75a346_c.jpg Finished. The left kick panel is home for the OBDII port. I ran the heater hoses and heater control valve through the right kick panel. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...33e51669_c.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1b858630_c.jpg The stereo amp will be under the seat, controlled by a bluetooth DSP (digital signal processor). |

Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
Looking good. Wiring always seems to take much longer than you think it should.
Looking forward to seeing this one on the rd. Marc |
Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
Its really coming together. is that the heater hoses running behind the passenger side close out panel? I've got my evaporator mounted but that's as far as I got so far. keep up the good work
|
Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.
Thanks, y'all. Hoping to let the smoke out of the tires by April 1. :burnout:
I had no where to mount the heater valve, so I decided to put it in the kick panel. There are bulkhead fittings to run out under the floor to the frame rail. I'll get pics of the other side later. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...acaf2fa1_c.jpg |
Re: The Vandal. 1957 "Big glass" 3100 restomod.

My Restomod - I was going to use the side cowl area to run all of the hoses then under the fender but decided to use the bulkhead to do all four just below the unit on the firewall. I tucked my heater control valve inline above the unit.
