Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
So last week, my pops backed his bobcat into Nasty. I was heartbroken to see my girly hurt.
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...01099301_n.jpg So he pulled the grill off to try and fix it https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...34577490_n.jpg Then I decided to go a different route... https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...65011843_n.jpg Everything is disconnected from the doghouse... https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...02977212_n.jpg Off with the clip https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...75732068_n.jpg The one eyed front end is off to meet its new partner https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...60806143_n.jpg While the clip was off, I went through inspecting all the problem areas of these trucks... Here is a shot of one spot... Overall, the only spot there is any rust is the outer rockers. That's awesome https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...63189031_n.jpg Instead of buying me another $400+ chrome grill, Dad bought me a new radiator support and gave me a fender... https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...87967404_n.jpg The grille and driver fender along with the hood that isn't installed yet I had off my cab from the Leftovers truck. This is as far as we got Saturday. https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...02585318_n.jpg Plans are to get it wrapped up this week with a cowl hood, Euro style headlights, solid back window, and a new coat of Satin Black paint over the whole thing. No more flames or shop truck logo. |
Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
I like the swap !

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
Thanks buddy. Really excited to get it all done. I've been wanting this front clip ever since I bought the truck.

It will be similar to these two https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...10795146_n.jpg I traded this truck to dad, who sold it to a buddy who finished it. Glad I kept Nasty. This one was nice, but didn't hold the sentimental value. https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6213715_n.jpg This is my dad's pride and joy. The Juice. It started as a rust bucket teal 72. Almost everything was done by him in a 2 car garage. The upholstery and exhaust were outsourced. Quote:

Both nice trucks....Jim

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
Blazer is still my daily driver.. I have been getting on the fourms more as my mood to want to work on the truck is getting less and less..

For this truck, I still need bags, vintage air, and wheels/tires. All 3 are not cheap, which is why I am going back to the black instead of going on and painting the Copper |
Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
Well just keep at it and sooner than later she will be done..
|
Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
That's the plan!
Tires on the rear are really starting to get thin, and the handling is pathetic. The heat still works, so the VA kit will likely be last. I'd really like Ridetech's level 2 setup, but 5500 bucks is a little too much for me. |
Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
those are some good looking trucks! is the driver fender an aftermarket fender?
|

No. The driver fender is factory, the passenger fender is a painted aftermarket. Both inner fenders are factory. The passenger factory 68 fender was rotted out along the top of the fender well, and the inner fender was rotted real bad. Had a super straight factory GMC inner, and a dent/rust free jap fender, so we installed those two. Worked on the ol gal a little yesterday afternoon. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...g?t=1366286480 Got everything mounted up but the hood. We still have to paint the inside of the hood before installing it, and I was by myself, so I just got all the little stuff done. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...g?t=1366286409 http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...g?t=1366286329 Also installed a new TPS hoping that would correct the late shifting from 1st problem, but it didn't. Going to take it to the mechanic and have him drop the pan, and do a service on it. If I had a lift, I'd do it myself, but this truck is too freakin low for me to crawl my fat ass under it |
Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
Josh I love the way your truck sits... is that a 4/6 drop?
|
Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
Thanks man!
3" drop front coil springs, 2.5" drop spindles up front, and a 5" coil drop out back. All can be found at Southern KY Classic's website. Dunno if they are a vendor here so I don't want to post the links to everything we got from them. I don't think they installed an adjustable track bar on it. When i hit a bump, the rear jerks pretty rough to one side |

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
my thoughts as well.
The flames and door logo won't be there much longer. We are repainting the whole truck black again. Going to start on all the body mods, and its easier to fix things and it not stand out with a solid color. Also going to be changing the interior color to what it will be when it is copper as well. The last thing to be painted will be the outside, but there is no reason why we can't go ahead and start working on the other stuff I may put a different logo on the door again though. |
Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
Spent more time on the ol gal this weekend.
The initial plan was to just swap the clip, DA the whole thing, and shoot a coat of GM black and a matte clear. Well, then my pops decides he wants to fix the dents and dings in the bed... and the tailgate... and the doors... and the whole truck. So this weekend while i was taking my exam, he installed the hood. The new-to-me hinges are bent, so it doesn't sit all the way right. This sucks, but I'll run it like this until i can afford new ones. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps0c201e91.jpg After the test, I went to his house and we got to work. At the end of the day, this is where we were at. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...psed515485.jpg The driver fender and grille are factory GM parts. They were in great shape considering where they came from, and that they were not repos. There was one dent in the driver fender, and the mounting holes on the grille needed to be massaged to line up correctly. The spot in the middle lower portion of the grille was 3 dents. We used a stud gun to pull out the dents, then a body hammer to work on the high spots. This metal was not fun to work with due to it being so thin http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps7d4e201e.jpg I cut out the small rust spot and cleaned the inside of the hole. This picture shows where we set the fender and grille placement. It took a little work to get them to line up this well, but I think the end result is worth it. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...psc15c5c15.jpg So the passenger fender was a painted repo we picked up from a swap meet for 40 bucks. It was in great shape, other than the fact it was a repo. The problem was during the manufacturing process, a group of ripples was cast into the metal around the headlight bucket. Instead of leaving the ripples in there like the PO did, I broke out the flap wheel and sander and worked the area until i got all the ripples out. Then dad put a skim coat of filler to fill the grinding marks http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...psb1f3453c.jpg The truck used to have a snap vinyl bed cover at some point. The button holes were still in the truck down both sides of the bed. We spot welded all the holes, then went to work leveling out the panels. Still a little wavy, but after a couple coats of high build primer, it will be nice. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps8c2f5ea8.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps6bd08255.jpg The bottom section was a giant dent that happened a couple years ago when one of my dad's employees backed a trailer into the truck. We used the stud gun to pull it out, then a skim coat of filler again to help level everything back out. We started working on the tailgate, getting all the dings across the top out. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...psa5ba5dfe.jpg Then I decided I wanted to go on and install my tailgate skin and relocation bracket. This is a factory lettered tailgate, so dad has been salivating over it for years. I told him to find me another tailgate, and this one was his. So he did. This is where we stopped. I'll pick up my tailgate this week, then start fitting the skin and relocation bracket. I know a lot of guys on here see the filler and get upset, but you can still take a magnet and it will hold. |
Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
Nothing wrong with a skim coat of filler, doing some nice work...Jim
