68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
Current picture as of 5/1
Here is my 1968 C10. I bought this truck while I was in Iraq in 2006. The wheels are staggered Camaro rallye Repos (15x7 Front, 15x8 Rear 5x5 lug pattern) that have been painted red. I also added beauty rings and chrome center caps to them. In 2006, while I was still overseas, my pops put new parts from Southern KY Classics under it which consisted of a disc brake conversion, new shocks, springs, and drop spindles. The trucks has been lowered 5.5" in the front, 5" in the rear. I bought the Sir Micheal's roll pan and tailgate skin for it, and we have yet to replace the tailgate, but the pan is on. This truck means the world to me, and there is no amount of money out there i would sell it for. The truck was bought on Ebay from Iraq on my first deployment with the USMC. Not many people get that chance, and with the fact of how much the truck has brought my dad and me together, it will be a part of me forever. Literally, I have it tattooed on my chest. Ha! So lets take you back to the beginning, and work forward. Here is the Ebay photos i bought the ol gal from (BTW, that date on the photos is correct. I bought the truck in June 2006) Truck doesn't look bad huh?? Well, according to the pops, it was a disaster. He said the truck was nothing more than a parts truck with a set of mufflers on it.

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
While i was still deployed, my dad decided to start and fix this heap. first thing to address was the suspension. New drop spindles, new springs, disc brake conversion, wheels, tires, and i really have no idea what else that man did.
When i came home from post deployment leave, this is what i got....

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
Well i was stationed in San Diego, and my C10 (which picked up its name around this time due to the Flowmaster 40 series and turn downs coming right off the headers. The truck sounded Nasty, the rest of the truck was nasty, so the name fit) was still located in Kentucky and in the hands of my father, who just so happened to restore 67-72 chevy trucks...
One thing about me is I HATE sitting in other people's filth. Whether its a dirty house, dirty clothes, or dirty vehicle. It disgusts me. So, as you can tell from the pics above, the interior was nasty. The truck was owned by a 17 year old, so i can only imagine what all was soiled into the carpet, door panels, and most importantly... The seat. $800.00 bucks later, interior was redone. Just a cheap carpet kit off fleabay, and a split back bench seat and the stock door panels were redone by a close friend of mine. All the steel was painted with the same red as the wheels The outside got a refresher as well with a black basecoat, some wicked pinstriping, and a billet insert. The center beam in the 69/70 grille was cut out to make room for the billet

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
All that happened around July of 2007, and it stayed this way for a long while. Being an active duty Marine, 10 months after i got back from Iraq, i was on a plane right back there.
This time while I was there, i bought an extremely low mileage LS1/4L60E/PCM/Harness from a 2001 Camaro SS. Now back in 2007, this wasn't the common swap it is today. There were still swaps happening, but not to the extent they are now. Due to this, the setup wasn't as cheap as they are now. Although I had bought the motor powerplant, it would be 2 more years before the truck ever seen it.... Once I returned from my deployment, I went back to my life in San Diego working on all my junk out there. Meanwhile, Nasty sat at my dad's just waiting. September of '08 I came home to go to the Rod Run in Pigeon Forge, so I wanted to get the truck looking a little better under the hood, so in a mad dash, I got the engine bay painted, and the roll pan on. Its not glorious, or super clean, or anything spectacular, but scroll up a bit, and look at what is was before... For about 20 bucks worth of paint, it was worth it. Here we are, my Dad's 72 and my 68 at the show While I was down there, I decided to pick up an all chrome 71/72 style grille. Once I got back to KY, it had to go on before i went back to SD, and it did. (this is a newer picture, as I don't have the original one from this time period)

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
Between September 2008 and September 2009, The truck sat under a cover in a barn while I finished my Marine Corps active duty career, and began working as a civilian and going to college. By this time, the engine was leaking pretty bad, the transmission was slipping really bad, and it just wasn't any fund for dad to drive, so it sat.
Around September 2009, the new-to-me powerplant that had been patiently waited in a warehouse, finally found it's new home between the frame rails of Nasty. The tank is a stainless steel blazer tank from Southern KY Classics. It came with the fuel pump and sending unit inside already The wiring harness for the engine and trans was ordered from Howell Engineering. I had their TBI kit on my CJ7, and it worked amazing, so I bit the bullet, and ordered their stand alone kit for the LS series engines. I know they are by far not the cheapest, and I also had them reflash the PCM to match the specifics of the truck, so I shoveled out some coin. In the end, I feel it was worth every penny. Everything was labeled, and simple plug and play setup. After this point, the guy installing the engine, was busy on other projects, so for 10 months, she sat. Just like this:

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
I was taking a vacation with the ol' lady, and we were coming to KY. In a beeline race to have the truck running before I got home, my dad and the other guy went to work hard on the truck.
The night before I boarded the plane, dad sent me a text... Then called a few minutes later. All you could hear was open manifold LS glory. I was beyond stoked. I came home and drove around the truck as much as i could, melting the back tires at every chance, racing mustangs and camaros and blowing their doors off, just raising as much hell as a 23 year old in a bad ass truck could raise.

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
After that, I came home in September 2010 and took the truck to LS Fest, Pigeon Forge, and another friend of mine took some photos for me. Really happy with how they turned out
Then, Nasty went back to the barn, waiting for me to return to KY, where it sat for another year...

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"
Thanks to all you guys. The motor swap has been by far the best mod i have ever done, on any car. The truck gets 20 MPG in the city, and 17 cruising 80 down the freeway, and can just flat out haul ass.

Never heard of that site, thanks!
I usually go through Southern KY Classics though. They have been dealing with my pops for almost 10 years now
