oh ok...

just got done watching the torque sequence video. I actually wanted to take the heads off to do the head gaskets since the motor has over 240k miles on it but the guys said its very rare for an ls motor to need head gaskets and the guy who owned the truck it came out of did lots on maintenance work on it...changed oil on time and everything. the truck it came out of was t boned by a semi but the engine still ran great.

Nah, no need to pull them. It just cost money to put back on. Those gaskets don't go bad very often at all. I only did it because I ported the heads and installed 4.8 flat top pistons.

another question about the video of the 84...u said u tapped a port for a gauge...what port was it and what gauge was it for?
and speakin of gauges I still have to buy that cable x thing for my speedometer. was gonna go with the later electronic gauge cluster but I want to keep my 100mph speedometer.

The truck will more then likely stay NA. That's why I bumped the compression up so much.

That is the piece on the side of the oil pan above the oil filter. I threaded my stock oil sending unit there for the oil pressure gauge to work.

I looked into the cts-v oil pan like u suggested...ill get that and swap it out after I get it running. im thinking we could change the pan with the engine in the truck. I want to drop the front another inch or so...so the truck pan has to go.

I ran the truck pan on my last truck and it worked fine. Just hung WAY below the crossmemeber as you've probably seen with yours now. This time I'll be running the CTSV pan. If you're going that low with the suspension, you may need to consicer the f-body pan. Here is a picture comparing the depth of the LS1 pan vs the CTSV pan. Mearure from you block down to see how low this CTSV pan will hang.

a poster suggested an LH8 oil pan a few pages back...whats the difference between that and an f-body pan?

See this link for all the oil pan dimensions:

http://ls1tech.com/forums/conversion...-oil-pans.html

The LH8 pan is the hummer H3 pan.

Re: Finally starting my 5.3 swap!!

damn didnt realize there were so many different pans for these motors.

Re: Finally starting my 5.3 swap!!

Update...we got the motor to turn over today!! Unfortunately it didnt fire up cuz the tank pretty much empty. Ill get some gas n try it again when i get the chance. I still have to get the radiator and driveshaft and turns out the starter is not aligned to the flywheel properly so when u crank the motor u can hear metal scraping....gotta take care of that for sure. Ill try n post the vids of it.

Btw what do u guys do about the throttle cable and lower rad hose?

Check out LS1Nova's thread over on LS1Tech. He has a cheap solution that I used, works perfect.
