Try some CLR on that paint. You will be surprised at the results.

Re: Walter DeWayne...Walt for short
I was that way with Laymond now that I have Chester going. But I committed to set set of wheels Friday and now I’m ready to work on it again.

So... Kim is gonna let you keep "Walter" and the '77 too? I think she is a real keeper! I would go out and buy her a brand new car! Oh, wait... you already did that. :)

Re: Walter DeWayne...Walt for short
Pops!!!! You’re exactly right. Maybe you’ve done something of the same? ;)

Since I’m going to keep Walt, I Decided to use the 468/th400 out of Chubby (my 67 C30 camper), so I got him running & moved him into the shop today. It fired right up (after a new battery & gas hose into a gas can) and it went right into gear like a champ. Walter will be a beast with that motor & trans.

Got home this evening and started the removal of the donor motor & trans. I got the core support, radiator and some very interesting parts pulled. I'll try to pull the inner fenders, wiring, plumbing etc tomorrow. Then mounts, fluids etc Wednesday and then whatever I couldn't figure out on Thursday night. Then I hope to get the motor/trans out on Friday. I need to get this beast outta the shop!

Inside of the motor is absolutely spotless which is great. It has an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake & camshaft, and 049 oval port heads...I’m very pleased with what I’ve got. And the TH400 was spotless too.

Re: Walter DeWayne...Walt for short
Of course I miss the listing when you had it for sale. Walt is a cool truck! Looking forward to the finished project.

I did some more cleaning & prepping to get the bbc ready for Walter. Ordered a new water pump, oil pump & pickup, a bunch of gaskets and such to make me feel better about this engines “fitness”. I have a few March serpentine belt pieces that I need to figure out if they’ll work too.
I’ve got to decide if I want to spend the $ to build the wider ‘70-1/2 up rearend or use the current narrow rearend. That’ll make me decide on the trans I’ll use. The th400 out of the camper is a beast, but I also happen to have a built 700r4. I have some time to make that decision though. |

As for the trans, if you plan on doing much highway driving, I'd recommend the 700R4 over the th400. Your engine will thank you with the lower cruise RPM. Plus, you can go with a higher numerical rear end ratio and the overdrive would help make that cruise speed more engine friendly. Otherwise, if you plan on racing Walt, stick with the th400, but you'll need to build it up. |

Re: Walter DeWayne...Walt for short
I have both the narrow & wide housings. And, since I’ve decided to keep Walter, I’ll be using him as a cruiser, nothing else. So, I’ll go narrow rearend with 3.42’s and 700r4. He’ll be on accuair air with PB mild dropmembers front & rear and big Wilwoods all the way around. And FITech EFI...
