Really picking up steam on this truck. Seeing it come together is really exciting for me. It truly is a dream come true.

Anyway, enough of the soapbox... Lets get onto the updates!:metal:

Most of the exterior body modifications and repairs are completed. Still have to shave the new tailgate, and now I have decided to go ahead and fix the rust in the floor/inner rocker area. It is the only real "damage/repair-needed" area left on the truck, so might as well address it now, and get it over with.

Here is a pic as of yesterday evening.

(sorry for the dark picture. Photobucket is being a tool right now...)

Can you guys tell what has been done?

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"

Alright, it might not look like much has gone on, but a lot of little changes.

First, and probably the most noticeable would be the primer spots all over the truck. We DAed the body of the truck except the hood and roof, but those two will come likely this weekend.

Next noticeable would probably be the lack of a hole in the grille. The new piece has been welded in, and we are now working on finishing out the filler and primer. All the body work on the grille area is about 80% done. Still need to line up the passenger fender and finish out the last bit of sanding, then she is ready for some paint.
(Sorry, didn't get a pic of this up close.)

The other mods would likely only be seen by those who are really familiar with these trucks, or have a keen eye. All the places I wanted to be shaved have been taken care of. Gas Tank filler neck hole, Antenna mount on passenger side, and the bed stake holes.

Here are some pictures. They still have good amount of finishing to do, but they are currently in high build primer, and I will cut it down with 220.

Filler neck gone.
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...psa55bc097.jpg
There is a little bit of filler buildup between the cab and bed, but don't worry, that will all be sanded out.

Antenna Mount
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps81660476.jpg

Not sure if this was factory back in the day, but the cowl doesn't have the place for an antenna, so it could have been. Either way, it was not my cup of tea, so off she went. The antenna has been moved inside, but was just wedged in the A pillar. I'm going to figure out something. Maybe hide it inside the pillar, or the cab corner area. I'll post pics when I do something with it.

One of the bed stake holes
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps56f99d32.jpg

If you see one, you've seen all 4.

That's where we are as of right now. going back out there Saturday after my exam to work on the floor.

I'm tucking my antenna just underneath the top of the bedside, if you're needing ideas. Awesome work by the way!

Thanks guys! I actually ordered a windshield mount antenna that will tuck up behind the rearview mirror.

Put in some time today, I'll post some pictures here shortly

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"

We will start where i stopped for today.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps8551400d.jpg

The truck has been primed, and we are working on straightening out any waviness in the panels. Matte Black and Gloss Black are really bad about showing any type of imperfection, so we are taking a little extra time to work the body to be nice and straight.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps1562bfe7.jpg
the passenger side is needing the most work. There were a few low spots in the fender, and the rocker panel has 4 pretty good size dents that will need to be addressed, but overall, it is coming along nicely.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...psc754f0ae.jpg

I also decided to clean the 40+ years of seam sealer out of the drip rail. There were only a couple places that rust was starting, but i was sure to grind it all out and it should be ready to go.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps7fef06c6.jpg

Only 1 spot of rust that needed to be repaired was below the drip rail. I welded everything up, so after some handy work with the grinder, it will never be noticed.

I started my day by pulling the carpet out of the way, so we could address the last rust issues in the cab. (The only other rust in the truck is the piece in the bed floor)
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps5fcdad6a.jpg
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps053d1b40.jpg

Overall, they are not too bad. The inner rockers need to be replaced, but my dad is not one to buy patch panels, so he wants to fabricate his own. I'm ok with that, as it saves me money!

Here are the bad spots

Wanted to show you guys the new seats for Nasty.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps3d2face7.jpg

They came with another cab, and I really like the seating position and the look of them. Of course I am having them recovered and the foam repaired/replaced, but I like the bucket seats. Going to do some sort of console for the middle. I don't know what yet, but something with a storage container of some sorts

Look'in good. Everything you cross off your to do list, means you are than much closer to the end.
I skimmed through the read and saw there was an issue with the hood hinges. Some where on the forum here I remember a similar problem that turned out to be because of the aftermarket 'hood'. Maybe someone else is familar with the build I'm reffering to and maybe you actually have this issue? :uhmk:

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"

As in the aftermarket hood bends them?

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"

I'm not sure. I tried to do a search, didn't find it, but did find this on rebuilt/rebuilding hinges.

Hope it helps.

it's comely along nicely! I too will be taking "that extra time" needed when painting something black. Worth it in the end! Can't wait to see yours done.

Thanks buddy!

Went and worked on the ol gal for a while today. Here is what all we got done. I have now moved to the interior. We were not going to do anything to the interior... Then I found the rust, and now I'm on a mission, so i gutted all the goods, but needed to keep it driveable to move around the shop.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps8fc54855.jpg
PO glued all the carpet down. not a bad idea i guess, but made for a pain trying to get it up. Going to put down some sound deadener before I put carpet in.

Next up was the dash.
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...psbf7a7bbf.jpg

Pulled the old dash pad because it was in pretty bad shape, and decided to pull everything else out as well. The gauges that were below the dash are going away and all the gauges in the cluster will be working as they should be.

Then we started on the ashtray area...
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...psdb10794e.jpg
I'm not a smoker, and therefore I never needed an ashtray. I seen on another member's build that he built a custom cupholder where his ashtray was. Well I thought this was the coolest thing on the planet, so I asked him if he could build another.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps4b821933.jpg

now the dash had to be modified a bit to get it in, but I absolutely love it. We made a filler panel to go below the cupholder, as it isn't as thick as the ashtray. We did cut out all the brackets from inside the dash that were there for the ashtray and radio.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...psd3c10231.jpg

Here it is opened up. There is a really nice trim piece that goes around it that will be installed after we finish repainting the interior.

I am going back to the black and red theme on the interior mainly because I can't afford to convert everything over. We will be doing a thin coat this time, as the colors are only temporary.

The last thing i did was fill all the mirror holes. There were 7 holes total in the driver door. I only kept the 2 that I would need.
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps9892ca90.jpg

The holes were filled with filler before, I don't know if dad did that or one of the POs did that, but I am not a fan of the filler, so I ground everything out, then welded up all the holes

Thanks guys! Just got my A/C controls from a fellow member here. Excellent shape, and I like the look much better than the factory heat/defrost setup. I plan to go with vintage air in the future, so this is one less thing I will have to purchase when that time comes.

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"

been working on Nasty for a couple hours each day this week. This is what we got done. Decided to change the interior to copper and install my bucket seats and console.

First thing I did was fill all the holes for the multiple different mirrors the truck has had over its life

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps161b2f63.jpg

Then I mounted my new mirrors. 69 Camaro mirrors. Love them

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...psb7ba1d11.jpg

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps242c6113.jpg

Then it was on to the interior again... I wanted to address all the holes in the doors.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps81a77340.jpg

filled all the holes
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...psa1d8c0b6.jpg

I thought I had more pictures, but i don't. I did weld in new metal for the speaker holes, and began sanding all the imperfections out of the doors. Before welding up the holes, I cleaned out all the gunk in the bottom of the door. Also pulled the covers off my seats and sent them to the dry cleaners. Going to dye the fabric black.

I just went through your entire build thread. You've made some nice progress. Have you done anything over the last 2 months (almost)? Where did you get your windshield mounted antenna? Do you have pics of it? I'll follow along from here. Keep up the good work.

That is exactly the info I was looking for! I knew there was a place in Bowling green but didn't know the name or location.
Sweet truck by the way!!! I love your Ranger too and can't wait to see how "Leftovers" turns out. If you have any leftovers from leftovers I might be interested! I'm just a 1/2 hour from Clarksville. I've been raiding the Pull-A-Part there for my 72 and not much left I can use.

Thanks Duane! Sorry I haven't gotten on here much, been busy with school. I haven't worked on it much until this weekend. I will post some pictures of when we got done shortly. The antenna is an ebay unit. It is still in the box, but once I get it mounted, I will be sure to post a pic of it.

Sounds good! We have a few of these trucks sitting around, and once I get leftovers truck done, I'll let you know what we have left.

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"

looks like i need to update this a bit... Here are some more pics.

Looks like I forgot to take pictures of some of the work...

Here is what the doors look like now
https://sphotos-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/h...07137177_n.jpg

all the holes have been filled, and the speaker holes were filled as well. We used left over sheet metal to fill the holes, then used a little fiberglass to smooth everything out. The doors are about ready for a coat of primer. We are going to change the door pins and the window regulator before paint

The outside of the truck is pretty much done for now. I am putting firebird marker lights in, so until those get here, its just a waiting game. The only real bodywork left to do on the outside of the truck is mold in those light bezels, and line up the passenger fender.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...95927751_n.jpg
https://sphotos-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/h...42256879_n.jpg

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...51710978_n.jpg

https://sphotos-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/h...34039155_n.jpg

The dash is basically done as well. Everything has been sanded, we have a little final priming to do, followed by some blocking and it will be ready for some color
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...41585430_n.jpg

And this is where I ended. Windows are out, new windshield will go in, and a solid 1 piece window out back. Found a little rot in the windshield channel so dad is going to take care of that this week. Hopefully be able to mess with it some more in the upcoming weeks.

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"

Thanks Jim!

I went out there today and got the windshield channel all sanded and ready for primer. The rear sliding glass window leaked (evidently for a very long time) and caused a couple rust spots in the rear window channel. Probably won't be back out there until this weekend to mess with it. I am working on the Ranger and the Jeep here at my place during the week while going to school.

Also got the electric fan issue worked out. We traced the wiring all the way back to the computer, and everything was working good. The faulty switch was the temperature sensor something or another. The radiator does have 2 pin holes in it, and it being a 4 core, I am going to try and have it repaired rather than replaced.

Re: 68 C10 SWB "Nasty"

Been a while. Just finished my Master's, and now back to working at dad's shop.

Nasty is still pretty much in the same condition as it was, just don't have the money to do it how I want, so I have been holding off, but I did have to break it out of hiding when the weather was nice a couple weeks ago

current state:

https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...78541650_n.jpg

and just to blow the cobwebs out of the exhaust...

https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...b9&oe=541D1424

Although it looks nothing like it used to, the truck's body is very close to being ready for final priming and blocking. I have plans for the suspension and drivetrain I want to take care of first before paint.
