Re: What a mess just look at this.
I just put a C4 front suspension in my 54... Maybe you could answer a couple questions and I can feel Better about it hopefully! Lol.. This is the first time I've ever done anything like this... Hopefully someone doesn't make a thread about my install! :)

Re: What a mess just look at this.
Boss hawg,
I'm sure your install is not anywhere closed to what was under this truck.lol |
Re: What a mess just look at this.
No it isn't that bad! Lol... I don't know a whole lot about putting them in though. I read earlier in your thread you were talking about a protractor something(couldn't remeber what it was called) and making sure the angles were the same as the donor car. I didn't have a donor car and I tried to find as much info as I could on installing the factory c4 crossmember but found next to nothing on it. What I did was level the frame and notched it cause the crossmember was wider than the frame for the most part. After I got it placed where I wanted it I leveled the with the lower control arm..... I have no idea if this is anywhere close to being correct in anyway shape or form!

Re: What a mess just look at this.
I didn't compliment you on your work either as I meant to. It looks great and maybe my truck will look half as clean as you had this one looking after fixing it!

Re: What a mess just look at this.
I was surprised this thread popped up again. Man, was the original installer a butcher. Hell, "butcher" would be a step or two UP from what he is.
Oh and while perusing it, I laughed out loud again at Bam being called a "meat puppet" after his attack dog pic's. Sounds like something your nastiest girlfriend would have called you, ha ha ha! |
Re: What a mess just look at this.
Boss hawg,
Thanks buddy. Now all you have to do is upload some pics because we would love to see your truck. Dan, Stop being a trouble maker.lol |
Re: What a mess just look at this.
Man that was a big mess you cleaned up, job well done.
|
Re: What a mess just look at this.
Yeah it was, and I'm learning its not all that uncommon. I'm starting to meet people with a lot of these hack jobs not as bad as this was but still hacked up.
Thanks for the compliments man. |

Re: What a mess just look at this.
Well since I have no pics of my project to post, I thought I would share my buddy Walt's update. He just finished painting his truck and asked me to stop by and have a look. It looks great but I knew it would because he is a awesome painter.

Re: What a mess just look at this.
That really DOES look good.
Just out of curiosity, is this truck a frame-off restoration or an on-frame project? The interior also looks fantastic. Do you know who did it? When the time comes I'd love to have that caliber of work done. |

Kabwe, yes his truck looks great. I know what you mean about listening when you can get knowledgeable info. Every bit helps when you can save a buck.

Re: What a mess just look at this.
Since this truck is done I will keep you guys posted on the 1945 Chevy that I installed the Mustang 2, engine, and trans. Its looking good.
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6078/...b6a3f2504e.jpg I've never seen a Mustang 2 unit like this before so I called the company and they answered my questions and the install went smooth. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6185/...16efec5574.jpg After I tacked the Mustang 2 in I stood back and checked to see if I liked how the wheels were centered in the wheel well. This was really important because the shop uninstalled original suspension and filled all the holes and box the frame so I did not have any reference points as to where to put the cross member. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6207/...1ca18a97bf.jpg http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6158/...26c2dcc3e5.jpg I welded every nook and cranny I could reach. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6159/...8fc2b71cf6.jpg I used this old block for mock up http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6152/...277c1eef4d.jpg He had the cab blasted and painted and I came by and helped him install the engine and trans http://farm8.static.flickr.com/7226/...512a6fd34f.jpg Putting the front sheet metal back on http://farm9.static.flickr.com/8323/...f1d7661370.jpg http://farm9.static.flickr.com/8189/...034d8bf033.jpg http://farm9.static.flickr.com/8343/...16f01ef5dd.jpg It should be one sweet truck when he is done. http://farm9.static.flickr.com/8063/...b41e53209c.jpg http://farm9.static.flickr.com/8494/...cae9a6f12f.jpg http://farm9.static.flickr.com/8048/...81fc939e81.jpg http://farm9.static.flickr.com/8185/...388b6e5699.jpg |

Both trucks look really nice.
Those are some nice looking welds on that MII install. Kim |
Re: What a mess just look at this.
Thanks guys.
Hey Kim you've met both owners at the Brothers Show. Walt owns the yellow truck and Jimmy owns the 45. Cool guys. |
Re: What a mess just look at this.
Bam, great job on the crossmember install. It sets just right. Both trucks look great. Great work as always.
