I keep looking at this project and thinking that I’m kinda uncomfortable with it. I really believe I’m going to sell the entire rolling PorterBuilt chassis minus this built rearend & brakes (and motor, trans & fuel system of course). Then just build Walter as a static drop with EFI big block, overdrive and big brakes. I really am to damn old for all this airride, fancy suspension stuff. I just wanna drive Walter.

I agree, Walter is cool but a fun driver and less work is going to be wonderful!!

You certainly don't want to get done and not be happy with it. Either way, it's gonna be cool truck

My thoughts precisely. It had been sitting since 2009. 1994 2 years before that. Empty the gas tank, new gas and a battery...drove it on & off the trailer.

Okay, I have been terrible at staying focused on Walter! I have finally split him back apart and started on brake, fuel and trans cooler lines. The trans cooler setup is done, the rear brake hard line is run from the crossmember to the firewall location and the fuel lines & filter are run up to the motor, but not finalized as I used the Holley Sniper setup on my 63-1/2 Falcon . So, I will be purchasing another Sniper EFI setup and I am going to go ahead and get the Sniper specific distributor, coil and ignition box so I will be able to control the timing like I have on the Falcon. Once I get that done, I will work on getting the air lines run.

Maybe, just maybe, I will stay focused this time. Sucks not having help or more motivation :(

It seems like all car guys have the focus problem when they have several projects. Some times it's good to take a break from the project and then go back as long as it isn't too long!!!!

Almost sold Walter and all his related parts for a fair’ish price. But, I realized very quickly that I’d never be able to replace him, much less build one like I’ll have when I finish this build. Walter is staying home!!! (Unless somebody offers better money...).

I hope Walt couldn't hear you talk about selling him!

Understand the motivation and distractions  I haven't logged in here in a while and went back and re-read my Chester build thread and I've been debating engine swaps for 3 years now  Since I've last been on here I've upgraded my daily 2x, sold my sxs and bought another boat. The only good thing is my truck is still running and driving, it just loses bodily fluids regularly and makes funny noises.

I started to think about selling my truck over the last month for something completely different. Took the truck to dinner 2x this past week and now I'm logged back in ready to dive into it again. Now I need motivation to stay on it.

Love the BMW btw.

I have actually been working on Walter some lately. I took the motor to a friends place and put it on the engine dyno. It made 524hp/558tq with the complete Sniper EFI setup. Horsepower was over 400 by 2500 rpm & the torque was over 500ft/lbs from 2100 rpm to redline. It’s should do just fine in an ole truck. 😬

Did you have the motor specs in the thread? If so I'll re-read. If not, I'd be interested in knowing.

It a weird build. I bought a $1500 ‘67 open road camper. When I showed up to buy it, it had been vandalized, but the box full of receipts included a $10k 468 motor build. It turned out to be super low mileage build that just sat. I pulled oil pan, intake, and valve covers. Forged crank, H-beam rods, forged pistons (part # depending on actual chamber size is 9.7 to 10.1’ish), Edelbrock RPM intake & cam, good oval port heads and so many other unexpected parts. I refitted bearings, oil pump, timing chain etc and added the Holley Sniper EFI. It’s a beast, for an ole truck 🤣

Ok.... The info sounds familiar so I probably did read it here. My BBC in the RetroRod is similar in build nature but it was built w/a solid flat tappet cam (this was around early '90) w/ported ovals that flowed what the aftermarket Merlins did @ the time. It was a decent low buck deal).

I’ve been draggin’ ass, but I’m on it now. It WILL be done before the new year. Body is off the frame again, but it won’t go back on until chassis is in powdercoat and the interior & firewall will be freshly painted.

Things have been progressing, just not very quickly or interestingly. But here are a few pics to prove I’m working on him. Got the front clip off and will get started deleting the stock heater box & fan holes and prepping it for paint. Also will be getting the interior metal prepped for paint too.

Also blew the PorterBuilt chassis apart for powdercoat… it’ll be black (original frame & oe brackets) and medium silver (Porterbuilt pieces). Then I’ll get it all reassembled, get the motor & transmission, gas tank air ride pieces in place and then I can build the driveshaft (2-piece) and get the exhaust run. Painless wiring, fit & finish the interior etc etc etc.

After putting it in words, it’s a long row to hoe. My mission is to have it finished by 2022. 🤷🏼*♂️

I’m actually using a oe tilt automatic column that I had rebuilt and painted. It’s an absolute beauty. 70ShortFleet did it.

He did mine as well. I had to shorten mine a wee bit more though to fit the R&P w/minimal angles & put the steering wheel closer to the dash for a little more in-cab room.

Especially since I’m going with 2 colors and there’s a total of 50 separate pieces that also have to be blasted.

WoW!!! Pieces are blasted, powdercoated & home. They look great in person. The silver is a metallic silver and really pops in sunlight. To bad it’ll never really show.
