my drunken purchase
I saw this on ebay during the day and then went to a beer tasting event and the rest is history. Unmolested farm truck from Arkansas/Missouri border.

Re: my drunken purchase

Re: my drunken purchase
So what does one bid on a truck like that when one is under the influence? If it's to much, just come on over to my shop we'll have a few then we can talk about an old scrap metal tower I have for sale in Paris. LOL

Re: my drunken purchase
I've been in the process of hot rodding a '53 for about the last 3 years. You can put a LOT of money into one very easily. Those era of trucks were trucks....they ride like trucks, run like trucks, etc.;)
|
Re: my drunken purchase
If you got it worth the money at your price it's all good. If you got into a beverage influenced bidding war it might not be so good.
|
Re: my drunken purchase
Haha, well I got it for an excellent price. What I had failed to do was look at exactly where it was located. It is on the west side of Arkansas by the Oklahoma border! I am in the process of trying to get this thing shipped because I don't want to drive 1,800 miles round trip.
|
Re: my drunken purchase
Excited to get it home, but will rest once its in the driveway. Shipping always makes me nervous.
|
Re: my drunken purchase
theres a web site called uship or something like that, you might be able to find someone that needs something hauled the direction your going, and you might even make money on the trip if you can get more than one thing to deliver.
http://www.uship.com/ |
Re: my drunken purchase
I tried U-ship but ended up going the traditional broker route. That's a very weird industry to say the least. Very competitive which is good and bad. Good because the price is driven down, bad because every yahoo with a truck is out there running around.

Re: my drunken purchase
yeah I had a guy come down from Kansas and buy some parts from me, he was already loaded down with stuff going to texas, said by the time he gets back to Kansas he will make about $100 profit after paying for everything to come down and get my parts.
|
Re: my drunken purchase
A guy just shipped me a '55 Lincoln to restore. Had an absolute cow because it took the guy 2 1/2 weeks to get it from Santa Cruz, CA to N Central Arkansas. When the driver got here he had a strong Ukrainian accent. I'm just glad the car made it here at all.
|
Re: my drunken purchase
Well that doesn't make me feel any better!
|
Re: my drunken purchase
Hey, the up side was it didn't have any more damage on it when it got here than when it left Cali.
Hey, it's in Arkansas? :hmm: I've got a trailer...and an opening in the shop... I could fix that so you could fly down and drive it home...just sayin'. |
Re: my drunken purchase
I used the u ship service and it went fine. The truck that delivered it was a bit shaky. Indy to Boston.
|
Re: my drunken purchase
old crow: That is an idea! I don't know if I could handle the drive in that thing. The truck is in Fort Smith, AR. I may end up driving my truck down and renting a trailer.
So the trucker was supposed to be there Thursday afternoon, then something came up. Then Friday morning but got a flat. Then Friday evening arounf 6-7pm so I have the previous owner push the truck out into his parking lot. The previous owner sends me an email at 10pm saying the truck is still there!!! The trucker never called me or anything. So here I am Saturday morning at 7am already pissed off ready to get in my 1990 dodge diesel and start driving. |
Re: my drunken purchase
Only adds about 50-60 miles to the trip to bring it by my shop, according to Yahoo maps.
This said, assuming you aren't really on the road at 5am on Sunday morning. |
Re: my drunken purchase
No, not on the road yet. Supposedly it was picked up yesterday though I have my doubts. I don't even care at this point, I'll deal with it Monday. Don't use Queens City transporters for trucking. I was supposed to get the damn truck yesterday and I don't even know where it, on the road? In Arkansas? Stolen? who knows.
|
Re: my drunken purchase
I used http://www.paragontransportllc.com/ twice with no problem. I just had a truck shipped from CA to MD last month it took 6 days.
|
Re: my drunken purchase
duallyjams: Truck running or not? what does that cost if you don't mind me asking? I passed on a truck in California because it was so damn far, figured shipping would be out of this world.
|
Re: my drunken purchase
You can estimates at most sites with 2 zip codes and on ebay

Re: my drunken purchase
Mine went like this:
- found my panel 1800-miles away in SoCal - bought a one-way ticket - figured if we make a deal, put on some new tires and drive it home or fly home empty handed - four days before takeoff, a buddy calls and says "if the deal falls through, I need a van driven home from out there" Well, made the deal after four days of negotiation and here is me and my rig, sitting in Newport, ready to hit the 15: http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...2/photo-40.jpg |
Re: my drunken purchase
You get truck in your driveway yet?
|
Re: my drunken purchase
NOPE! The guy was supposed to be here yesterday, came up with some excuse and never showed. He's got until today to get it here or I am calling the state highway patrol and reporting the truck stolen.
The guy is either the dumbest, unluckiest person in the world or he is full of s%$t. On top of all that he doesn't call me back, pick his phone up, do what he is supposed to do, etc. |
Re: my drunken purchase
Hang in there.
|
Re: my drunken purchase
Theres nothing worse than dealing with stupid people!!!!!! Im sure your truck will show up about the time your ready to strangle this guy. Have you tried having a few more BEERS? that may lead you to a solution. I put down a 12 pack the other night while trying to align my front end, I thought it looked great, the next morning not so great!!! Good Luck!
|
Re: my drunken purchase
BTW: it should make you feel better if I add up all my "panel purchase trip" expenses, such as flight, local car rental, u-haul trailer rental, gas, food, etc, it comes to $2500 and I slept in the van coming home.
The entire process lasted a full 7-day week, including the horse-trading and drive 1800-miles home. So, think of what you are probably saving, in time and money! Of course, I had a ball doing all this. :mm: |

At the end of the 2 week period, my customer called the company and told them they had until the next day and he was going to call the cops. Amazingly enough, the car showed up the next day...in the middle of the first rain storm we'd had in like a month. |
Re: my drunken purchase
Is it home safe?

Re: my drunken purchase
It's been awful quiet.

Re: my drunken purchase
it's sad that a c10 owner has to get drunk to buy one of these fine trucks :D
|
Re: my drunken purchase
We're not sure he actually owns one yet.
C'mon, Ogre, you can't tell me that somewhere along in your build, your truck never made you feel like drinking. I've been messing with old trucks since I got out of the Air Force in '75...I know better. |
Re: my drunken purchase
ogre never needs a reason to drink beer :D
it's the nature of the beast :D:D:D |
Re: my drunken purchase
Haha, I needed to get drunk to buy one in Arkansas! I finally received it at the end of last week. Looks even better in person, I am happy to finally have it.
