Arkansas Parts Mecca

Well, well, well.....
My father brought me a 1971 C-10 stepper for an early Christmas present a few weeks back, and he mentioned that he knew were two more trucks were if I wanted to look.
Well, when I went to visit for New Years, I drove by the place he mentioned to see for myself.
Heck, I counted nearly 7 trucks out there, but the place was closed.
So, home I went, wondering what was out there in that yard.
Well, I decided to make the long weekend even longer by taking Friday off, calling my buddy GMan, and heading off to Arkansas.
We picked up my dad, and headed to the junkyard....
(And oddly enough, I lived only two miles from it my ENTIRE LIFE, and never knew it was there).

Anyway, I will include a few pictures of what we found. I think I counted 21 trucks out there like ours. And he has Chevelles, Impalas, lots of old Galaxy stuff, F-100s, and tons of cool others.....all in one location and VERY organized

(I am not ready to give away the secret location just yet......I know....shame on me)

And, sadly enough, not a single tach or tilt in the bunch!!!

Anyway, here are the photos.....

....found my stash, didn't you?

Man, it is good to see that you found the stuff and that what you really wanted, just wasn't there!! Honestly, I've seen some of these trucks, still being used here in Arkansas. I know, you're from Mississippi (I love spelling it!) and any excuse to get away from it, has to be good (just kidding.....I have a sister and two nieces who live in MS.).

It'll be alright, tho. Just keep it to yourself and we all know you will enjoy it that much more. Congrats on your latest project. Hope you find all the stuff that you need.

Well, I can't keep it to myself and not feel guilty. If anyone has ever followed along past threads, they will know EXACTLY where I am from in Arkansas. Although I call Mississississississippi home now, southeast Arkansas will always be "HOME". (hint...hint)

Wow! Looks like some great metal to pick from! I feel a little jealous! lol
............so why is the yellow or 68 your favorite? Does it have a small back window? Kinda looks like it from the pic.

Re: Arkansas Parts Mecca

Yepper...
Small window
Good metal
It was kinda' alone in it's place...sitting quietly waiting to be rescued
Like that one little puppy in the animal shelter...
I was just drawn to that one for some odd reason.

Great find. I'd love to come across a score like that. Enjoy.

Re: Arkansas Parts Mecca

You can't see it, but the second picture bedless truck) had a family living in it.
A family of beavers, evidently. The entire cab was full of tree limbs and sticks, neatly stacked, just like a dam. We didn't dig around in that one!!

Re: Arkansas Parts Mecca

Is that the original cab? I wonder if it is a carryover from 67. I have heard of this before........

Kinda funny, some of those trucks look nicer than one's I've seen people driving or trying to restore. That dually looks really solid/straight as well as the copper colored shortbed pic above that one.

Putter 01-17-2006 12:15 PM

Re: Arkansas Parts Mecca

Actually I didn't dig too deep into it....but it is a small window (67?) but has marker lights (68?). Hmmmmmm.....

A good many cound be restored with very little metal replacement. Mostly they were missing engine parts and interior parts.

Southeast Arkansas is a whole lot like northeast Louisiana and western central Mississippi, ain't it?

Speaking of families living in the cab, one would be wise to check out the confines of such vehicles during the winter months. Otherwise, could be cottonmouth, or a rattler in there, huh? Sorta depends on how wet they could get or how wet the surrounding terrain gets. Since you cited a possible beaver infestation, sounds like water to me.

The red/white bed sitting all alone, looks like it has a decent tailgate....at least from the inside view. Who knows? My tailgate may look good to some folks from other parts of the country. But, that bed doesn't look too bad, at least on the right side. Upper trim is gone, but I don't need trim.....heck, I don't even need another bed.....just commenting on the sheet metal.

Good post.

Putter 01-17-2006 12:42 PM

Re: Arkansas Parts Mecca

That bed was awesome. The drivers side did have a dent behind the wheel up high. Like he rubbed up against something...not HIT something.

A lot of those trucks are nicer than what I WAS driving until about a year ago.

Uhhh......sure I did. The "owner guy" wasn't around, so we couldn't get good prices. Just let me know when you want to make a field trip.

I am sure KRUE will want to get some of those GMC parts!!!!

I know I am drooling over all those swb frames there. Cool pictures.

Re: Arkansas Parts Mecca

I wish I could find 1/4 of that stuff around here, if there is any in around in the junk yards they are pretty much history most of the frame and sheet metal is pure rust and been pretty well picked over.

Sounds good. My next day off is the anniversary for my wife and I. We can go then.......I don't think she would mind...do you?

Seriously though, thats sounds like a plan, lets try to start coming up with something. As long as I have some notice I can almost take any day off I need with a few exceptions.

That is a very nice yard! You could take a "chew" walk for days right?LOL He quoted me $600 for the '71 lwb 4x4, title included. Did you check under the hood of the GMC beside the old house?

Re: Arkansas Parts Mecca

the gmc by the house is swb i-6, 2speed auto, ac, pb and its all there.(or was a few months ago) owner priced it to me last year $300. i've been pulling parts there for a while now. should be a couple more van tilts left. owner is sometimes proud of his parts, but they are his and you pay his prices.

Eric, can you pm me the info or give me a call? Did I mention that I am in Fayetteville right now? I had to pick up one of our show trucks in Kansas City this afternoon. If has an empty bed and a tow package, if need be. I will be home on Friday!

Putter,Is that a dealer installed brush guard on the 69/70 in the 9th pic? I've been looking for one of those. When you go back see what kind of deal can be made.

Re: Arkansas Parts Mecca

That looks like a yard here by the house. (it isn't though). Its closed also. FULL of 67 to 72 trucks and lots of muscle cars. Last time I was able to get in, he was open from 8 to 12-1 to 5 closed on sat and sun. Told him it was hard for a working man to get in with those hours. Tough. Anyways whenever you decide to tell us where that yard you found is, I be waiting.

That's so typical of the Arkansas trucks too. Mine was exactly like that. The body was solid, and the running gear was worn out. You guys up North can drool now. (I'm from Boston, so I know what real rot looks like.)
