What cam are you using???

Hey Yall, I got the engine torn down and am in the process of getting the parts to put it back together. I was wondering what cam are yall using and how do you like its performance. I am looking for something to give me more out of the hole and still have a little left. I've got 3:73's a 700r4 and a 350 4bbl with headers and 2.5" exhaust. I'm also running 285/70/15 tires. The engine has been bored .30 over and may be going to .40 over if I cant hone out some of the fine grooves in the cylinders. SO suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: What cam are you using???

I'm running a COMP XE262. It has a slight thump at idle and pulls pretty hard from about 2500-5500 rpm. I would liked to have gone to the XE268, but would've had to change the valvesprings, which turns out, needed to be changed anyway.

I've heard the Lunati VooDoo cams have some good profiles.

Depending on budget, you simply can't go wrong with a hydraulic roller setup. They cost more, but you get what you pay for.

Re: What cam are you using???

For bottom end I would suggest, EDLBROCK RPM Intake, K&N Large Air Cleaner, 1 5/8 Primary Tube Long tube Headers, Comp Cams 270H 1800-5800rpm, 2000 Stall converter (Jegs $100), good wires and plugs. Your Engine is an Air Pump...What goes in must come out. Also A nice Posi Differential if you don't already have it. If you even want to go further than that, a good pair of Vortec Heads will add a bunch of torque as well. ;)

Re: What cam are you using???

As a matter a fact the above mentioned setup including the Vortec heads got me 400 horse and 420 ft.

CR and heads?

Can't talk about cams without knowing the engine configuration...

I have 11.1 pistons and I have the comp 305dur/325lift cam. Let us know what you want your rpm pulling range to be. It is stall speed, cam, and intake are some. Match everything perfect on the lower rpm along with a good stall speed you can shoot out of the hole like a rocket...lol

Let us know, I want to keep this truck going for awhile with no problems. My first comp cam and always went lunati myself.

Re: What cam are you using???

Lunati, Comp Cams...It really doesn't matter what name brand but more so the Spec of the cam. All I can say you better pre-lube it or you will brake of a lobe off, no matter who makes it.

Re: What cam are you using???

My problem with Comp is there warrantee department. I had a problem with one of there cams and was treated like I didn’t know anything about anything by there rep , his name was "RED" This jerk told me that if I didn’t like what he was offering I could eat
sh!t and die. I wont deal with people who treat there customers like that. When I changed to the VooDoo the loud slapping of the steep ramp that Comp likes went away and I’ve been happy ever since

Re: What cam are you using???

for the best cam call this guy. he custom grinds cams specifically for your engine setup, vehicle weight, r&p ratio, and trans being used. he also regrinds and hard faces cams all on a computer controled machine. nothing like a custom made cam just for your project.

Re: What cam are you using???

i heard its not that much more expensive to have cams custom ground, only like 25$ more than a production grind. a friend of mine goes through ISKY for his sprint car cams, really likes them i guess

eedgell 10-20-2007 05:31 PM

Re: What cam are you using???

I guess a little off the wall for this board, but I have had good luck with ISKY's MEGA cam line up. Good selection for both SB, and BB. The best out of the hole, to top end power band I have found. Real smooth, and powerful. Give them a look.
