Re: front coil help
Try a set of C20 coils. They might get you close to level.
|
Re: front coil help
sorry for got to mention my truck is a 1983 chevy c20 2wd
|
Re: front coil help
Hmm, maybe a C30 coil then. I'm not much of an expert on lifting them. Ask me how to lower and I got ya covered.
|
Re: front coil help
i just want to level things out front and rear
|
Re: front coil help
anyone know what i should do?
|
Re: front coil help
Install a 2" shackel. The rear is 2" higher from the factory. Shackels are cheap. You could also flip the front hanger. Flipping the front hanger may drop it more than 2".

Re: front coil help
so if i install a front 2" coil spacer id be good too
|
Re: front coil help
I think a 1ton/diesel front coils would bring the front up if you have a gas 350..
My 1/2ton 2wd sat level with only 1ton front coils. Also... you do not want to put a 2" spacer on the front coils. Due to geometry all you need is about a 3/4"-1" spacer to get 2-2.5" of lift. |
Re: front coil help
No drop the rear. It's easier.
|
Re: front coil help
No.... lift it it looks better.
|
Re: front coil help
ok guys i only wanna do this once how much of a lift spacer with my stock spring do i need to level it out
|
Re: front coil help
put heavy duty 1 ton coil springs with a 1 inch spacer. worse case scenario you need to add a block in back...
|
Re: front coil help
i just want to get a coil spacer just dont know witch size
|
Re: front coil help
Bump
|
Re: front coil help
than i would say 2 inch spacer. make sure your balljoints are in good shape.
|
Re: front coil help
2" drop shackles
|
Re: front coil help

Re: front coil help
why get 1 ton coils ?
|
Re: front coil help
because they have a higher spring rate and it will make the truck sit taller.
|
Re: front coil help
well if i only need 2" and im putting 2" coil spacers if i put the 1 ton springs id be to tall
|
Re: front coil help
"Lifting" a 2wd truck is not as easy as it has been made to sound. There is only so much "droop" travel in the front suspension to begin with and adding coils spacers w/o taking this travel limit into account is a problem. I wouldn't bet on the 1 ton springs doing much more than making the ride unbearable.
You really are better off to lower the rear to match the front with the new "stock" coils up front. |
Re: front coil help
ok guys so i dropped the lower control arm and i compressed the spring and tryed to shove the spring in but it just seems i cant compress the spring enough im stuck and need some help any one have tips and even if i do compress the spring enough i just cant get the compressor out
|
Re: front coil help
anyone i need help guys
|
Re: front coil help
Get a coil spring compressor from your local auto parts store.
They should rent, sell, or loan them. |
Re: front coil help
i remember having a similar problem..
i used a chain. i hookd it to the jack and then up to the frame and back again to the jack. so as i jacked up the lower control arm, the chain held the rest of the truck from raising up and it held itself inplace and therefore compressing the coil. also put a strap on that coil, cuz that thing can fly outta there and a strap will at least limit to where it flys. be very careful where u hook up the chain on the truck and make sure u dont pinch any brake lines... |
Re: front coil help
If you have a front sway bar, remove it so you can drop the LCA even more, might make the difference for getting the coil in/out. Had to do that on my 77 when I cut my coils.

Re: front coil help
ok guys so i got a compressor and i did unbolt the sway bar i cant compress the spring enough becuase the shaft on the compressor gets 2 long and it hits the top control arm
|
Re: front coil help
The way I have done it in the passed with my 1 ton front coils is as Datguysal stated.
Put the uncompressed coil in the upper pocket and use a hydraulic floor jack to lift the lower control arm into place. I have done this on two different vehicles, one being my 82 when I rebuilt the whole front end. |
