I've been working on mine for a few months now and it was a good driver when I got it and didn't plan to do much at first... I've also been working on a tribute truck for my late son and this project has been going for a couple of years now, so I know how hard it can be wanting to get it done and enjoy it :metal: The good thing is that this place is a wealth of information and support, so you are in the right place to help you complete your project ;) Tony Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 66 GMC Fleetside Okie Daily Driver
Ya know Kieth, I am normally not a green fan, but I do like the color on your truck. it's not overpowering and not too light. I also dont like the bed wood, you should remove it and get something more fitting for a nice truck like that, I am willing to take that wood off your hands and "dispose" of it so you wont be embarrassed at shows, it is the least I can do...whadyasay?
|
Re: 66 GMC Fleetside Okie Daily Driver
Man Kieth...your truck is so purdy. :sexy:
|
Re: 66 GMC Fleetside Okie Daily Driver
Yea, Okie Redneck driving a green truck.............oh well I have not seen one this color, just trying to look stock but just a little better.......The base paint is the std light green, but the white in the mix was replaced with silver metalic and the solid yellow with transparent yellow. It took a lot of paint because it is transparent 6 coats of color 2 coats of polyurethane..........thanks for the compliments. Kieth

the engine, transmission, front crossmember, powersteering , and the tilt wheel all came from a wrecked 91 suburban that I paid $600.00 for.....Kieth I wanted to leave the original key switch on the dash, might make it the on switch for a alarm....... |

Clyde, come on up, its cooler up in Oklahoma than it is in Dallas, Texas cause you guys always do things better than everyone........my gauge shows 107 degrees this afternoon........If you can pull this bedwood out without us knowing come and get it. Knowing what I do now, I will buy the wood the next time..........If the wood is sized properly and the grooves are cut properly the installation process would have gone quickly. But when you are poor boying it and you cut your own wood and did not do it quite right, the errors start to mount up and you end up taking everything out 2-3 times and correcting the errors, repainting the wood , and then reinstalling it. Man these trucks are a lot of work.........Kieth: gmc2: |
Re: 66 GMC Fleetside Okie Daily Driver
i looked at where you cut the brace for the tank and i cut mine but now i think i'll have to cut mine more! i got the poly tank not the steel one! maybe next month i'll be up there visiting with the wifes family and i'll have to check your truck out! i'll even help you just to get away from my wifes family, lol! i'll let you know ahead of time and give you my number!! my wife family lives off of shedrian and yale!!

If you had seen how really bad the paint looked you would not have been so fond of it. I painted it green because I used to work at the Admiral Twin Drive In when I was 12-16 years old, the truck we drove around the theater was light green, it had a 6 cyl with a 3 on the tree, and we used to pop wheelies with it much to the displeasure of the manager ! I wanted it to look similar to that truck but got a little carried away.....it was the first truck I drove so I thought it would be fun to recreate it. Now I plan on driving it every day. Went to one of our local suppliers to round up a few parts today, guess what I found,
1. Chrome GMC grille with letters $250.00---2 minor dings 2. Perfect 66 GMC fleetside tailgate $100.00 3. stock 63 chevy radio with knobs free 4. good chrome bezels and lenses for back up lights free..... 5. For those of you who might want one a hood ornament on a 66 chevy hood. (it looks like a 55 chevy hood emblem to me..... You might inquire if you are looking for parts new or used, Kenny is a good guy and he just builds chevy trucks for a living but is not a computer guy... http://www.kennystrucks.com/ :gmc2: his phone # 918-691-2468---he is just south of Tulsa on hwy 75 |

Re: 66 GMC Fleetside Okie Daily Driver
We did the old GMC grille a little differently, painted it and the letters medium fawn metalic (with a shine) and the inside of the letters to match the truck. I just found a chrome one but I had already started on this one.........what do you guys think ? I think after we put it on the truck it will look pretty good. ??? :gmc2:

Re: 66 GMC Fleetside Okie Daily Driver
thanks, Nate and Protrash, I started to install the front fenders this weekend, the passenger side got away from me, one should not install the front bumper before the fenders, why cause it scratches the heck out of the fender if it slips, do not ask me how I know. Oh well we move on, sealed the tailgate today getting it ready for color.....now we have to go back and redo the passenger side front fender.....1 step forward 2 steps back. Kieth

Re: 66 GMC Fleetside Okie Daily Driver
I forgot, here is a shot of the final fuel tank install, we could not get the filler neck and the lid centered without having to cut the SS bed runners, so we just staggered the 2 and it worked (phew) luckyy.............on the same page a picture of the front fender I messed up. and oh yea
WE GOT IT RUNNING---------------------NEXT STOP THE EXHAUST SHOP !!!!!! http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G...204975_sMtpxWj |
Re: 66 GMC Fleetside Okie Daily Driver
got brakes, got power steering, got transmission working, air up the rear air bags, got the engine running, got it outside to load on the trailer ------forgot to tighten the return line on the power steering pump, DUH but it sure feels good to have it outside under its own power. Kieth :gmc2:
http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G..._ZP6N2xH-X2-LB had some problems with the paint on the rf fender and the tailgate, waiting for it to cool down in the mornings so the paint will not dry before it hits the body......... |

Re: 66 GMC Fleetside Okie Daily Driver
Ran into a few snags, the hot weather has kept us from painting the tailgate and the RF Fender but we managed a few other things,
1. had to completely rewire the dash, the circuit board was toast so we learned how to do a few other things........ http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G...8_2SCC5Hx-A-LB Got the headlights installed (had to come up with our own headlight adjusters but the fix was better than the original design.... http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G...3_cFM5rJb-A-LB My front hubs are out being drilled for 5 x 4.75" the rear hubs also, this puppy will soon be back on the 17" Cragars and michelin tires, I think it will set it off. Tomorrow is the big day, will take it to lunch for a test drive, hope it does well will let you know. Kieth :gmc2: |
