Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
Yay Or Nay?
I was wondering what everyone thought about a 22/24 staggered wheel set up. Was thinking about it, and since I found an extremely wide 24 tire, I thought it would be cool.. The truck would be bagged and sitting level. |
Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
I think it would be sick! If you can swing it, I say do it!

The truck would have all the stock trim and everything except bagged with 22s and 24s.. I need to think hard about this because I cant just return a 24x14 wheel LoL |
Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
I think the 10's up front are going to be hard to fit inside the fenders, without the correct backspacing.
The rear will look sweet, with a 24x14,... but it will need to lay flat on the ground, to pull it off. What's wrong with 22x8.5's and 22x10's? |
Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
If we are talking about the blue truck in your avatar I say say don't do it. Call me old fashion but I think it looks great the way it is. Looks like a real clean truck that I wouldn't be cutting up. But thats just me, I am sure it will great however you decide to do it.

Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
Nothings wrong with 22s all around, was just thinking a 24x14 would be badass out back. My 22x10s have a 5" backspace, and i know the porterbuilt drop member pulls the wheels in like 1.25 inches on each side, I think the 10" wide would work..

here's Brown Bag on 22's and 24's and body dropped ...
http://www.keefsrodncustom.com/galle...serialNumber=2 The width in the front might give you a bit of a problem, but that just might mean cutting! Hope you do it ! |
Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
My opinion is dont do staggered sizes. I dont think it works well on these trucks. Run the same size front and rear and stagger tire size instead

Does anyone have any more pics of brown bag? I cant find that many..

Decisions, Decisions....
|
Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
I've come up with a decision for you. You can sell me your truck the way it is and start over on a project truck. Just a thought, hope I could help.
|
Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
Haha id take you up on your offer but the wheels on the truck in the picture were sold to have some 22s made.
|
Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
Valid point. They do look good laid, but thats it. Once you take it to ride height that goes aeaway. I'm not trying to be negative, but I think 24's are a but much too. Do 22x12 out back and call it good.

Ya ive started having second thoughts, I was thinking about a 22x12 but very limited on what I can run as far as a tire, I would like to have a tire thats taller then 28"s and all the 335 tires that I see are like 26inches tall.. |
Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
What brand of 22's did you order?
Or is that a secret for now? I like your idea of 22's, stock trim, and dropmembers. |

Haha no its not a secret, they are Rushforth Wheels. Local guy here in Washington that started out doing renderings for people and about 2-3 yrs ago started designing his own wheels. Here are the wheels on a Chevelle, Same finish too. They are Called "Rushforth Concept I's" http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...side_view1.jpg And a close up of the detail... http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...concept_i1.jpg www.rushforthwheels.com |
Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
I know those wheels.
Excellent choice. They will be perfect on your truck. |

Here are two examples. They look good in these pics but I would like to see them at ride height.

I'm thinking about this set-up on my truck too. I think it looks great laid out, but I have yet to see them at ride height. I don't think it would look too bad though.

Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
It looks ridiculous when the lip on a 24x14 rim is so huge you cant see the actual wheel maybe with a not so aggressive backspace it would look decent.

Most of the time, I think he recommends a 8.5" wide wheel (with a 5.25" BS). It only takes money to fix that problem.:metal: |
Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
how much do those rushforth wheels run for say some 22x10s?

Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
I just remembered justpball is running a 20x10 on his burban with a 5" backspace. I think the drop member would work and I would beable to run my 22x10s. I will call Nate @ Porterbuilt monday and talk with him.
|
Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
Just got off the phone with Nate @ Porterbuilt, He said they can make their control arms an inch shorter on each side to accommodate for the 22x10 up front. And for the rear, he said they are working on a drop member that has the bag mounted inboard on the frame so I would beable to run such a wide tire. :metal:

Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
I guess I'm old skool; I liked your truck as it sat with the 20" 225s on it.
Anything lower and bigger diameter is not really my thing.... I love the workmanship on those trucks, but I'm going from 22"s to 20"s. Anyway, build it the way you want it.:metal: BTW, that Chevelle is reaaallly close to the pavement. Don't wanna run my GTO that low. Lower than stock but not that low. Guess he's got shockwaves or something in there Those Rushforth wheels rock big time!!! Shame they're a bit too much $$$$ |

I have a 67 GTO thats on the back burner right now, the truck is going to take all my funds. But I plan on doing a full "REAL" Pro-touring build on it. The way Pro-Touring was years ago when it was more then just a set of big wheels and lowering springs. |
Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
67's are waaay cool.
I sold mine last year cause it needed too much work to be as nice as I wanted it. For a little less I bought this nice '71 LeMans which will be a mild pro touring The Judge Clone. I'm getting ready to order some SPC suspension stuff for it....it has torched springs too:jdp: http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...pontiac039.jpg |
Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
That thing is awsome! SPC makes some nice stuff.

Re: Thoughts on 22/24 Setups?
OK, well, I did some thinking the last few days. Ive decided to do the 22s all around, I couldnt justify spending more money on two wheels and two tires then I paid for the whole truck. I can buy the porterbuilt front and rear drop members with the money saved from deciding on 22s all around. As soon as I get enough parts gathered I will start a build thread. I just hate to start one right now and only be able to update it once a month.
