New Build Thread AD on a C5 Vette
I thought I would start a decent build thread for this truck.
I started with This. My car hauler full of parts http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../393520396.jpg and This C5 with a lite bump the the front http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../393046788.jpg I narrowed the C5 frame and keep the C5 wheel base http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../393654984.jpg First time for old sheet metal on new frame http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../393674977.jpg I fabbed up a new dash, floor, firewall, and kick panels http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../394190807.jpg Here's a shot of the new bed I made. 5'6'' x 49'' http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../395023682.jpg http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../395023728.jpg |

Re: New Build Thread AD on a C5 Vette
I really should have picked better sheet metal to cut my teeth on. It took me forever bumping dents out. I just didn't take the time to take pics of that process.
Here's a shot of the bed and tailgate with the tranny in the rear. http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../395023695.jpg Here's a shot of the gate up closer http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../395023697.jpg Hidden Latch I came up with http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../395023720.jpg http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../395023740.jpg GMC Canyon 60/40 seat and a fabbed seat base. http://pic60.picturetrail.com/VOL172.../395023753.jpg |

Re: New Build Thread AD on a C5 Vette
I'ver got to spend the next day completing the cut n buff process. I just started with the 3M DA with 1200,1500, and 3000 grit. After thats done I'll get after the ECM wiring, power windows and door locks. I'll be glad to get this paint behind me so it will look like I've made some progress.
I'll try to stay up with the pics and post from here on out. Thanks |

Re: New Build Thread AD on a C5 Vette
Tuned55, Glad you stuck with it. The AD truck is way better than the corvette body. It should drive and handle great. Great job.

Re: New Build Thread AD on a C5 Vette
Thanks Ya'll!! I really had no idea this project would go over this well. I like it but for some it's still almost 11'' shorter than any I've seen. I really don't have any long term plans for this one. That is to say it will go up for sale when it's done. It was built with the iintentions of it being a driver for my wife but we decided work full time in my shop and quite my day job. (I'm 55 with a bad back). I do however have another C5 6 speed car waiting as well as 2 more AD cabs. One a 3 window and anoother 5 window. Number 2 will be more of a loud, low, big brakes and sticky tires. Would realy like to have some fun with a autocross venue.
Again thanks for all the kind words and II'll see why I don't get notified by email when someone post here. |

Re: New Build Thread AD on a C5 Vette
Well is it the way you planned it?
What is the most interesting thing about the truck, besides the right peddle What are the plans for the number two truck Why the color change? How do these trucks work with a high center of gravity on all independent suspension? I am sure it drives as good as it looks ! |
