Was finally able to get the Bed Rhino lined. Took a few days to do it but it turned out ok.

Re: Project: Long Time Coming
Just got the last of the parts I was waiting for to put in wilwood 13" big brake upgrade for the front and rear on the truck. And a buddy is gonna hook me up with a 9" chrome brake booster he has and a freshly rebuilt holley 750cfm 4 barrel carb.

Re: Project: Long Time Coming
Didn't look like you had any rust to deal with, that always speeds things up. Bed floor looks nice.
|
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
Yeah i got lucky with the rust. only a few spots with some surface issues. other than that its was more just getting the old paint off and the bedliner on.
|
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
so i was finally able to find some time to install my new brakes on the truck. sadly she is still on jack stands because i haven't been able to get the parking brake adjusted so that it will engage and allow the truck to not roll away on me. unfortunately i broke my hand so getting her back on the ground will have to wait a few more weeks. here are a few pictures of the old equipment and the new equipment.

Re: Project: Long Time Coming
So a few things to note on this. I used the wilwood 13" big brake kit specifically the super lite 6 in front and super lite 4 with internal parking brake for the rear. Part number140-10775-D for the front and 140-10093-D for the rear. Word of caution though on the kits. The front is designed to be used with CPP drop spindles. Sadly I didn't have these so I had to purchase them and then wait to continue my install later. Also the internal drum (parking brake) feature of the rear brakes is designed to be used with the wilwood extended brake cable kit. Part number 330-9371. I also purchased wilwood disc brake fluid and a new adjustable proportioning valve to replace the old one I had before. Over all a very easy kit to install. I did need to pull the rear axles in order to I install the rear brakes. Pretty easy to do. Just make sure you buy new diff fluid and a new gasket when you do. I was able to bleed the brakes with the help of my wife even though she was 8 months pregnant at the time. And the all work pretty well now. I haven't been able to break in the new brakes yet since the parking brake still isn't working fully. Hopefully I'll be able to do that soon once I get this broken hand out of a cast. Anyone who wants more info just ask. And I want to say thank you to the guys at CPP, AZ pro performance, and wilwood for their technical help.

After a long break due to a broken hand and my wife giving birth to our first child, I'm actually going to be able to try and do some work on my truck tomorrow. Hopefully I can make some progress on the brakes and maybe get her back on the ground soon.
|
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
Nice. You driven the truck since you put the brakes on there?
|
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
Sadly no. I've been having a terrible time getting the parking brake setup. Saw that you were running a similar setup with the brakes. How did you run the parking brake cable on yours? Great build btw. I'm looking at doing a lot of the same to mine.
|
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
Put my truck back on the ground today. pretty good feeling. hopefully tomoro i can get the timing set so i can start breaking the brakes in and driving her every day again.
|
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
so i finally got the old girl running and the brakes broken in and its great to be driving her again. i also found out that the trans is actually a TH350 and not a 700r4 so that was a major buzz kill. another thing on the list that keeps growing of things the previous owner neglected to mention or just lied about. and the reason i didn't know was i didn't know how to tell the difference and didn't think that it was anything but what they said it was.

Re: Project: Long Time Coming
yeah i ended up getting 5 pins put in my hand and some surgery to fix the damage.
|
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
so after a long break i was able to swap out the ignition system and get the old girl back on the road so i think ill be taking her to the cruisin grand on friday if anybody else is gonna be there.

Re: Project: Long Time Coming
Clean looking truck. I know how it is to try and wrench with broken bones, no bueno!
I'm trying to get a big c10 get together here in San diego. So If you are interested and know people that would. Hit me up so we can make this happen sooner |
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
Very nice truck you have. Digging the brake upgrades! the broken bones....not so much.
|
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
Thanks for the compliments on the truck. Vega design I'm totally down to do that. I have a neighbor with a 72 long bed that might join too. And I know there are plenty of guys local that would be up for it. Yeah mcbassin the brakes were pricy but very worth it. And wrenching with broken bones sucked.

Re: Project: Long Time Coming
was able to put in a msd pro billet distributor a little while back along with a mad digital 6al-2 control box and blaster 2 coil. she is running pretty well with all of that under the hood. too bad my modulator on my tranny needs to be replaced.
|
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
so i traded my old brake parts with a local guy who trades in parts from our trucks and was able to get another set of bed inner fenders and another tailgate. while talking with him i found out that my truck is actually a highlander truck with the top option package. so I'm gonna try to restore her as much as i can but add a few goodies in the performance area.
|
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
so its been awhile since i have been online. but i have been on deployment for a few months and still have a bit to go. but waiting at home is my 72 and all the parts to swap in a tremec T56 6 sod
|
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
finally back from deployment. now i have a pallet worth of parts to install. going to be a fun time. ordered a Tremec T56 kit from american auto train, 1" bore master cylinder from wilwood, speed demon 650 carb, new steering column from LMC, lokar pedal assembly to go with the transmission, new wiring kit from american auto wire, plus a second set of fenders to tub the bed to fit 18x12's sometime in the near future and a spare tailgate to shave the handle off the tailgate. a few projects lined up for a good time and a whole new truck from a performance and driving stand point.

Re: Project: Long Time Coming
I tried and tried with my e brakes too turned out that my cables had rusted up inside and they wouldn't pull all the way in. They're pretty cheap and worth the insurance.
|
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
Yeah I'll be taking a second look at mine here soon as I can.

well its been a long time since i posted an update on my progress on the truck. Since i was last on here i have installed an MSD Pro Billet Distributor, Digital 6AL-2 control box, Blaster 2 Coil, Tremec T56 Magnum 6 speed manual Transmission courtesy of Hurst Driveline conversions and San Diego Driveline made my new Driveshaft for that, CPP tilt steering column to replace the factory column. lots of pictures to add and found out a lot about my truck that the previous owner helped to add more to my project with.

Where did you get the brake and clutch pedals? they look really good! |
Re: Project: Long Time Coming
So a little warning on the shifter location. We discovered that my motor is mounted in the big block mounting location so it should be 2-3 inches further back. But it will still clear. Plus there are 3 mounting locations for the shifter. I am using the normal location just with the shifter plate rotated 180° which it comes with the ability to do. There is also a mid point it can be mounted to but requires a different shifter plate. Easy swap though. The pedals are lokar direct replacement pedals. I like them alot. They also make a matching throttle pedal that is a factory replacement.

Re: Project: Long Time Coming
Cool build man. Nice looking truck

Re: Project: Long Time Coming
Thanks. Still has a ways to go but she is coming along nicely. And I love driving her to work everyday.

Re: Project: Long Time Coming
made a final decision on gauges and wheels. gonna get a full set of auto meter ultralite gauges and then 20x8 and 20x9.5 us mags rambler u111 with 245's in front and 285 or 295s out back.
