Sideways Tim's Right Hand Drive 66 Stepside - UK
I just became the proud owner of this...
http://www.sidewayscycles.com/i/00/15/94.jpg It's a 1966 short bed stepside, factory RHD with a 350ci small block and three speed manual. Loving it so far :) http://www.sidewayscycles.com/i/00/15/93.jpg It was imported from the US to the UK in 1974 and fitted with the V8 over here. http://www.sidewayscycles.com/i/00/15/96.jpg It just fits into my garage, which is good as it's completely rust free! http://www.sidewayscycles.com/i/00/15/97.jpg Runs and drives just fine, but needs some love to the interior and the paint is a little tired. http://www.sidewayscycles.com/i/00/15/95.jpg I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions, but I thought a quick introduction would be in order - if anyone knows anything about the Tarrytown RHD trucks, I'm keen to find out as much a I can. Cheers! |
Re: Hullo from the UK
Beautiful truck. I love the RHD.

Re: Hullo from the UK

|
Re: Hullo from the UK
Welcome to the best forum! Nice truck :metal: I'm sure everyone wants to see more pics - especially the gauges.
|
Re: Hullo from the UK
Welcome.
|
Re: Hullo from the UK
Thanks folks, nice to be here!
The gauges are from an Impala (I think) as was the engine and gearbox. Happy to be corrected though. All in miles - speedo goes all the way to 48mph and then stops moving, so at least I can't get any speeding tickets! http://www.sidewayscycles.com/i/00/16/01.jpg http://www.sidewayscycles.com/i/00/16/02.jpg http://www.sidewayscycles.com/i/00/16/03.jpg |
Re: Hullo from the UK
Welcome to the forum! First RHD truck of this series I've ever seen. Nice looking truck by the way. What are your plans for it? Glad you've joined!

Re: Hullo from the UK
Welcome aboard! That's a nice RHD truck! :chevy:

Re: Hullo from the UK

First plan is to drive it a bit and show up any issues - the main one being that the seat needs new padding, so I can actually see over the steering wheel! Over winter I plan to address the cab and fit some sound insulation, sort the window rubbers, fit the door cards and make it a nice place to be. Then overhaul the brakes and figure out the fuel filler/bed fitment issue - after that, just play around and fix whatever needs fixing. |
Re: Hullo from the UK
Nice truck and welcome. What is the window crank on the center hump for?

Actually, that's just where the handle landed last time I shut the door  |
Re: Hullo from the UK
Truck looks nice.
Does it have a heater/defroster? Where is the fuel filler? |
Re: Hullo from the UK
Did that come as a RHD ? Model A Ford's all came with a hole on both sides of the frame so the steering box could be mounted to either side of the frame.

Re: Hullo from the UK
Very nice truck...

If the VIN code showed it I'd know for sure, but as it was considered an option on Tarrytown builds, there's no proof. |
Re: Hullo from the UK
Welcome to the forum :D
That's a nice truck, with some interesting mods. I wonder why a previous owner felt the need to modify the firewall so much. I did notice that the cab does have the air intake hole in the cowl for the right side heater. I see what looks like a heater fan motor on the left side. |
Re: Hullo from the UK
Welcome!

There's no heater motor or radiator that I can find - what are you seeing? |
Re: Hullo from the UK
Welcome from another Brit here!
Great looking truck you have there, I love a stepside but then i'm biased I guess! ;-) The build thread for my truck is in my signature. |

Re: Hullo from the UK
In the engine compartment on the left side there is a round black housing protruding from the firewall that looks like a fan motor. I guess it must be something else?

Re: Hullo from the UK
Hullo folks! I've been busy enjoying the truck and not done a great deal to it yet, however, today I started making it quiet inside, with about two miles of Dynamat, some felt padding and some carpet - pictures tomorrow after the carpet is in place.
It's nice to see a couple more trucks from the UK on here too. |
Re: Hullo from the UK
Hi,
Just found this thread. Great looking truck and RHD is a real rarity. Nice to have more of these cool trucks in the UK. What's the history of yours? Any idea how long it's been here or where it was imported from? Will keep an eye on this thread to see how the truck develops. Just one question, having reversed into your garage how the hell did you get out of the truck?! |
Re: Hullo from the UK
nice to see another c10 in the u.k this must have been a Australian import they made them in R.H.D for over there :welcome2:
|
Re: Hullo from the UK
Well, first time I have seen this thread.
You should ask the mods to move it to the builds section. Glad you are enjoying it so much. I did not realise they had these in Australia. Never were available in South Africa as far as I know. But there are RHD examples in SA. My truck will get Dynamat when I get to it as well. |

Great to see another truck in the UK . They are getting more and more popular in the UK . I haven't seen a R/H/D one though . Keep us posted with what you do to the truck |
Re: Hullo from the UK
Would a picture of the steering box be possible? Any casting numbers on the steering box?
There was a guy years ago, who came on the forum, had one of these from South Africa. The members from South America with production built in Argentina, have Speedometers in Kilometers per Hour. http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/4...3022200428.jpg http://www.stovebolt.com/gallery/ima...rrie_1961a.jpg http://www.stovebolt.com/gallery/ima...rrie_1961d.jpg |
Re: Hullo from the UK
Hullo All!
I'll take some photo's for sure, but according to the VIN number the truck came out of the Tarrytown plant in New York. I believe all the export trucks (RHD) were made in Canada, but this one was a factory option. Possibly done for an English farmer, who knew he would be bringing it back to the UK at some point. Imported into the UK in 1974 with an I6, it's had a 350 small block fitted and a new dash from, I think, an Impala. Other than that I know nothing :) |
