Sold my 68 step ls1 truck and decided I wanted a little nicer truck with a great handling suspension and of course ls drivetrain. The truck as I bought from a friend . He has already put rockers in and started shaving the firewall .

Got my ride tech front adjustable coilover suspension.

Installing a high hump tunnel . Truck will have a built t56.

Cut holes in crossmember and welded in 4" pipe to rout exhaust through.
Welded up my trailing arms

Got a factory core support with the truck that was in pretty good shape with the exception of minor rust on the bottom so I made some patch panels and welded them in.

http://i803.photobucket.com/albums/y...103_202909.jpg
Got some in rail notches and started fitting them in lastnight.
On the way I have a complete new bed 18x10 wheels front and rear , my t56, and I pick up a 2004 ls1 on Tuesday.
I've got started on my engine wiring harnes. This is just a mock up motor.

I'll be running this holley intake with a adapter I made to run the t.b. vertical using a round carb style air filter assembly.

Subscribed, will be keeping an eye on this. We have similar plans and are in about the same stage of the build.

Got a little work done this morning. Made a trans x-member and got my headers test fitted. Also this week I picked up my motor. It's not in aby pictures but it's a 2004 ls1 go block that was built by a local well known engine builder Gary Grimes aka Grimes twister engines. It has roll master adjustable timing set crane cam , arp throughout , can't Remer brand but also aftermarket pistons and rings.

I am doing this also and bought a small section of pipe to use. It 1/8 in thick but it looks like you used something a bit thicker. Do you think 1/8 will work?

dkauffman05 11-15-2014 04:59 PM

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.

I'm sure 1/8 would be fine. This is just what I had.

Did some more frame x-ing and made a track bar bracket. I'll have to finish welding tomorrow I ran out of wire.

Wanted to test fit the cab lastnight to check for the trans tunnel fitment before I finished boxing the chassis and got it ready for paint.

Had to do little more trimming on the floor for the shifter location

I really like this view with the frame bracing

What headers are you running?

dkauffman05 11-19-2014 08:00 AM

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.

They are from Gibson. They come in stainless or ceramic coated. I'm very pleased with the quality. I am using an abnormal motor mount setup for these trucks so I can't vouch how they would fit in most other situations. The headers are made for our trucks though.

Cool build.

http://i803.photobucket.com/albums/y...115_143647.jpg

Not sure if it will be an issue, but I built a trans crossmember for a LS swap G-body a few years ago, similar to what you've built, and the "channel" section of it where the exhaust passes under just didn't have enough strength for my liking. Seemed stout on the weld bench, but with the weight of the trans on it, it had to much flex. Not sure if that will be a problem with yours or not, since yours appears to be quite a bit wider and gussetted nicely, but something to be on the watch for.

dkauffman05 11-19-2014 11:53 AM

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.

I've thought about that. I might add some more gussets under the exhaust arches to add some strength. Thanks for the input.

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.

Are you planning to use coilovers front and rear, or are you going to use just a spring and shock combo in the back?

Can't wait to see the 18x10 square setup, I have been trying to figure out what I want to go with.

dkauffman05 11-19-2014 04:03 PM

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.

Just coilover in front. With rear drop springs. Gonna mount rear shocks outboard of frame. Wheels should be here next week hopefully.

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.

Cool, thanks. I had plans of just upgrading the stock stuff up front, but by the time you add up brakes/control arms/steering box/sways/etc. it gets close to the price of a bolt in setup like the no limits wide kit. I am still on the fence on what to do there.

Making quick progress, I will be on the lookout for wheel pics.

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.

Did some more boxing and frame bracing tonight. Ran out of grinder flap wheels so I'll gram some tomorrow. I've got some blending to do. I'd like to get the chassis ready to paint by Saturday but we'll see.

Got some work done before the rain hot today. I got my chassis finished welded up sanded down and painted.
http://i803.photobucket.com/albums/y...122_115747.jpg
Saturday I cleaned up the shop a bit then started the front ridetech assembly. Wanted to hang the rotors but I needed some spindle nuts.
http://i803.photobucket.com/albums/y...123_161731.jpg
I also made some new coil brackets . The others I made were a little to big to fit where I needed them to mount. Left side is the new one.

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.

Nice! I didnt know they made those with a brushed lip. Are they 18x10 like you had mentioned earlier? I had though about getting the Eagle 227 wheel and brushing the lips myself to knock down some of the shine.

Re: 69 pro touring/ autocross.

Also, It looks like you have 6 inch springs and a block out back? Hoping I can get that low in the rear with coilovers.

Got a little work done during the holidays. I took an aluminum compressor pistons I had and machined an adapter to use a round carbed style air cleaner.
http://i803.photobucket.com/albums/y...223_163912.jpg
Came up with this

http://i803.photobucket.com/albums/y...102_202432.jpg
http://i803.photobucket.com/albums/y...102_202445.jpg
Also had to make an extension on my trans hump to mount my shifter boot.
