73-87 DBW pedal bracket?

What is everyone doing to mount the DBW pedal in there 73-87 trucks?
I've seen Hart Rods killer throttle brackets for the 76-72 trucks and when I contacted him, he unfortunately doesn't make them for our trucks.

Depending on what year you have, I replaced my 2011 truck pedal for a Corvette pedal and used Hart Rod's plate and it works perfect! All I had to do was swap two pins in the plug for the pedal.

Re: 73-87 DBW pedal bracket?

Are the mounting locations different for each pedal?
Sounds like I'll be getting a pedal from a 03-06 truck (Pedal is still being shipped with the motor so I can't be sure until I get it).
would love to get one of Hart Rod's adapters if it will work. I don't mind drilling if I need to, but as far as cutting or bending the bracket, I'm worried I won't be able to get it right.

Re: 73-87 DBW pedal bracket?

The '04 DBW truck pedal I used had 2 bolt holes that lined up with the original pedal holes. Haven't had any issues using just two bolts.

There's a few people using the pedal from a late 90's 6.5 diesel on their Gen III setups. You have to swap a couple of wires in the harness but the pedal itself bolts right up in the 73-87(91) trucks. Here's a pretty good write up on it:

I used a '95 6.5 diesel pedal. bolted right in. had to repin the connector on a couple of wires IIRC. Looks completely stock

Good info guys!!! I just added this to my DBW pedal thread so the 73-87 guys can get their conversion done as easily as possible, :metal:.

Cut and bend it for Your Foot!
These peddles (DBW) do not have much movement to reach 100% throttle

This is the pedal that came with my swap, what would be needed to bolt it up to my 87 Burb? Do I need to bend the pedal bracket or mod one of Hart Rod's brackets?
Thanks again

What about GEN IV pedals that don't make use of a TAC module?

Re: 73-87 DBW pedal bracket?

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...3&page=1306-07 is a plastic pedal. post 302 shows what I did. Got the idea from glock35. Used the left hand original hole in the bottom pedal hole then drilled a new hole for top pedal hole.

About to buy the 98 6.5 diesel pedal, if I re-wire the connector like the above link says, this should work with a 2004 gen3 PCM and TAC module right?

What year is your truck and pedal?

Re: 73-87 DBW pedal bracket?

Ok bought a new pedal from Rock Auto, instead of taking a chance in screwing up my existing harness, I'm going to see of I can find another pedal harness to buy and modify, just in case something gets messed up.

Bringing this post back from the dead.
I never did try to re-work my pedal/harness wiring. I was too afraid of screwing something up.
Has anyone been able to use one of Hart Rod's 67-72 brackets for a 73-87 truck with a little work?
I have my pedal working in my truck now, but it sits way too high up, and is un-comfortable to drive for a long time.

Re: 73-87 DBW pedal bracket?

As I understand it some of the the 72's use the later bolt pattern of the 73-87. The rework is to just drill another hole in the bracket. I think the current ones have both hole sets.

Nodnard76 , This may help. I used an 04 truck pedal . The o4 was a medal bracket . If I remember correctly you had one with a metal pedal arm like I used . I think I used 2 holes that were already there in my 82 to bolt it to the floor . I cut the metal arm off and drilled a hole in it and cut the 82 pedal arm off and inserted it into the 04 arm and set it in place to position it and welded it in place . It is a perfect fit for me . Also looks just like the oem pedal . Heres a couple pictures .

That is a good idea, I have a question though as I know nothing about welding.
I am worried that welding my pedal will get the pedal too hot and mess up the electronics in the pedal. Do I not need to worry about that? If not I have a friend who can weld for me and I may end up doing what you did.

It was not a problem for me . It was not much more than a tack weld . Once done cool it with water . The electronics was far enough away it did not affect them .

Thank you! I just talked to my friend with the welder and we are going to do this next weekend just like you did. I will post back when I'm done.

I am still looking into what would be the best solution. I currently have the 98 Diesel pedal, and am trying to decided if I should try and re-wire my harness to make it work or cut/weld my existing pedal.

The problem I keep running into, is whenever I find instructions on re-wiring the connector for the pedal, I keep finding other instructions that say to do it differently. I saw a video on youtube where someone only had to swap one wire and he claims his works with no problems.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WX1X...index=2&t=102s

Then I find other instructions that say two wires need to be changed. (second post from the bottom)

https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...questions.html

Then I have read about doing it and swapping 3 wires. 4th post from the top

https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...91-chevys.html

I am not sure which I should trust.

I'm in the middle of this now, and my pedal isn't working lol. Did you ever figure it out?

I did. I removed the wire from pin "E" and moved it to pin "A".
I also had to cut a small notch in the connector to make it plug in.
The pedal now is perfect and I have been using it for a couple months now with no issues.

Awesome, I'll have to give that a whirl again, thank you for the pic.

Re: 73-87 DBW pedal bracket?

Quick question on the sensitivity of the diesel pedal. Is it as quick to react to foot pressure as a truck DBW foot pedal? My truck pedal seems to be too sensitive, meaning the lightest touch causes a response from the throttle body, such as driving on a rough road where the constant bounce will cause your foot to lightly move up/down with body motion. This causing the engine speed to increase/decrease accordingly.

Here's my scrap pedal mount. It's at the 3:55 mark.

73 K5 blazer with the DBW pedal mount, using the stock pedal

I used a flat stock of plate, and moved it over 3" and that was it.

Compared to the 04 Truck pedal, the 98 Pedal seems more sensitive to me.
The 04 pedal had a lot more travel the 98 pedal. Seems that I don't have to press the 98 pedal as much as I did the 04 pedal.
FWIW: when I had the 04 pedal mounted it sat up really high, and I could not rest my foot on the floor when driving like most cars. So instead of moving just my foot I had to move my whole leg to use the throttle.
Hope this helps.

Re: 73-87 DBW pedal bracket?

hmmmm. Interesting. Because I started with the Tahoe adjustable height pedal, I have gotten rid of all that bridgework, and welded an abbreviated pedal arm to the original pivot. I'm wondering if, because the pedal is so much shorter, the pedal ratio is less than it was, now, it takes less motion to equal the original operation, or maybe, I'm just overthinking it. Anyways, thanks for the response

Likuid kerations Has the absolute best dbw pedal brackets for 60-66 67-72 and 73-87 for all 3 pedal styles. Got one of their 67-72 and 73-87 and they are seriously top quality. I struggled to find a good bracket for 73-87 and now I know there isn't a better bracket out there. Best part is they are only $50 bucks

Re: 73-87 DBW pedal bracket?

Gen5 swap - Ive done 2 different pedals. Stock Gen5 truck/Tahoe pedal and while it doesn't look like stock, it doesn't look bad. I still haven't made a metal bracket, still out of 3/4 MDF.

Other I used a 2008 Impala pedal and modified it to use the stock C10 pedal. The Impala needed to have a little sheet metal plate cut out so the pedal would have the stock c10 tilt, otherwise, it was a lot more vertical if i remember, really awkward.
