Worth it all day long. Do it

Best bang for the buck. Especially if you grab a used one. '73-'87 C series trucks are a direct bolt in and are plentiful in the bone yards. |

Re: Sway bar
I put one on the shop truck. It sure corners a lot better and is more fun to drive. Very good, inexpensive upgrade.

Re: Sway bar
x2 on what Already Gone said. That is exactly what I did. However, any sway bar (new, used, OEM, aftermarket, size) will be a huge improvement.
|
Re: Sway bar
Yes, nice upgrade. Only watch what you buy as far as aftermarket. My aftermarket did work but I had to modify it a little to keep from hitting a tie rod as I recall. I recall I had to leave a spacer out maybe. I think mine was from Brothers.

If you're lowered. Add the lowered brackets for more road clearance. First pic is the stock bracket. Second is the lowered one.

Re: Sway bar
any retrofit for a rear sway bar? does the truck arm system even really need one?

Yes the rear benefits as well. Have a look at the rear of most new trucks these days and you'll see sway bars. |
Re: Sway bar
i know ccp made one but is there a later model that will work for cheaper like the front
|
Re: Sway bar
Yes, there are. Use the search; I've seen older threads on it. I think a Camaro bar was one of the ones I had seen a thread on.
|
Re: Sway bar
Yes I had the camaro bar on my 71 before I did the No limit shock relocator and took it off. Didn't need any longer and it was in the way of the install.
Here is the link of my install.:chevy: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=304267 |

Re: Sway bar
Got one off a late 80's Suburban in a local boneyard...best $40 improvement...came with brackets & fit my 72 C-10 perfect.

Re: Sway bar
Getting a used sway bar from the 73–87, do you have any problems with the lowered trucks, the sway bar is bottoming out

Re: Sway bar
You can forego the standard or lowered brackets and bolt the bushings directly to the frame instead.

Re: Sway bar
I hope the CPP front sway bar is a good one. I have one on the way as we speak.
|
Re: Sway bar
Why do some caution against a rear sway bar? I don't remember where I read that so I may be wrong.

I added a front bar from a Heavy Half Squarebody C10 with the lowered brackets, then later the CPP rear sway bar along with their traction bar from Summit. It is a lot of fun to drive now. |

The only thing I can say is don't put a bigger diameter bar on the back than what is on the front.:chevy: |
Re: Sway bar
Your suspension is a balance. Tightening up your front suspension increases under steer. Tightening up your rear suspension increases over steer. This need to be balanced to give maximum traction. Unless you are using custom parts, adjustable parts, or mixing and matching parts, it is unlikely most people will run into an unbalanced setup.
By adding a rear sway bar, you are tightening up the rear, which can make it more likely to over steer. I feel that as long as you keep it balanced and don't go too big on the rear, the risk is negligible, while ride quality will be improved. |
