Yes, I would say gears are your next purchase!

Did you have fun though? Drag racing is fun as hell, especially when you can participate.

Were the posted RT's red lights?

ocbaud 05-20-2004 11:05 PM

no. i only redlighted once and i didnt post that time. i ran about 6 times.

ocbaud 05-20-2004 11:08 PM

yes, tons of fun. i would probably still be out there buy i had to take the girlfriend home because her eyes were bothering her.

she isnt coming with me next time.

MylilBowTie 05-20-2004 11:20 PM

VHT trackbite wouldnt hurt those tires :D
Might want to try it and see if it helps, if you are spinning alot.
What ratio gear are you wanting to run?

ocbaud 05-20-2004 11:22 PM

i'm not spinning a lot. its just that with my 2500 stall and big upper RPM cam, it doesnt like the lower end.

i'm wanting to put 3.73's in it.

Captkaos 05-20-2004 11:28 PM

Were you stalling it up at launch?

i tried it both ways.

Captkaos 05-20-2004 11:42 PM

3.73 gear would do you a big favor trust me I know. I used to have 3.08 in my truck and went too 3.73 and I'll tell you this much it maid a dramatic difference on the way the truck comes off the line.

ocbaud 05-21-2004 01:09 AM

i get paid next week. i guess i'll end up getting gears and waiting on the posi.

low 84 05-21-2004 01:35 AM

don't worry it will get way better once you get everything ironed out. how are you racing without a tach? you need to know where to shift? are you just letting it hift itself?

Good time none the less OC. We all gotta start somewhere :) You'll be in the low low 15's with the gears and pois. Gears, then pois, then fiberglass hood, Nitrous :)

i'm guessing ? :)

in drive, it shifts at 40mph, or about 4500 rpm's. i've been shifting out of first at about 50-55mph.

plumbcut 05-21-2004 04:10 AM

1st gear @ 55mph!

1986Silverado 05-21-2004 05:07 AM

Not trying to hijack your thread OC but............86 Red Bowtie...how much is your truck lowered? I like the height :)

I was gonna say the same thing, that truck looks sweet!
OC,
DUDE! You're trapping LESS than Gary, yet your motor is DEFINATELY hotter..WTF?? Are you babying that thing off the line because you don't want to go up in smoke? You SHOULD be trapping 95mph EASILY...

ocbaud 05-21-2004 10:23 AM

like i've been saying, its not tuned perfect yet, and my stall and gears suck.

Captkaos 05-21-2004 12:07 PM

Where is the cam designed to start making power? I would try tach'ing it up higher into the powerband (closer to the cams operating range) and launching it from there. Play around with the launch RPMs and see what the truck likes.

about 2500rpm's

86 Red_Bowtie 05-21-2004 12:36 PM

The truck has a 3/4 drop on it from belltech.

ocbaud 05-21-2004 03:44 PM

how many seconds will you guys subtract from my time for having blown header gaskets??? lol

i looked today and about 5 of the 8 cylinders where leaking and have black around them. both of the gaskets where blown through on a couple cylinders too

LOHRTBT 05-21-2004 03:52 PM

LMAO!!! You still wanna run me bish!! ;) All that smack and my 2000 GAGT would run dead with you lol. j/k

You need tuned something horrible. man...I ran door to door with my T/A with my old man driving it up till the top of 3rd gear. that car runs 13.3's on a 110 degree day with horrible clutch. So Im guessing mid to low 14's for my truck with its crappy carb..your making much more hp than me and your mph is way down from where it should be. I was thinking 94-98 mph honestly

1FaastC10 05-21-2004 04:53 PM

trap speed doesnt seem THAT far off, when i ran my 15.02 trap speed a little over 80.
