It's turning over!!!! Progress!!!
The new engine is now turning over!!! But the fitting from the fuel pump that connects the fuel line to the carb buggered up and starting pissing fuel so it wouldn't hold enough fuel pressure. It would fill the filter and then start pissing. SO we went and got a new fitting and are headed back to the shop in a few minutes to see if we can get it to run tonight. We'll keep you updated
bet you two are excited to hear it run.Let us know what it sounds like.
Does anyone have any tips on firing this pig?? It keeps turning over but it just won't seem to fire. The fuel filter doesn't look to be full, so it seems like it isn't sucking gas into the carb. I had a small flame shoot out of the carb already :D But that was because I dumped a small amount of fuel in there thinking it would fire up. I could really use some help on this guys
Shouldn't have any fire shooting out of the carb, try advancing your timing. If this doesn't work, you might be 180 out.
It does sound like it would be 180 off to me also.
Any luck????? Hope if will fire for ya...
gonna try turning it 180 degrees to see if the timing was off now. I'll update you guys in about 15 minutes
It's been more than 15 min. . . . ;)
well we managed to get a flame shooting out the ramhorns! :D Does that count as progress?
yep!!!!! kick the tire's and lite the fire's....
I am running out of thigns to try here. We have been PM'ing with Randy for the past hour or so and have tried just about everything to get her to fire. Just takin a breather and will head back to it in 5
...Dubie I'm routin' for you and the Flames tonight!
Well, if things start getting too frustrating, try it from the beginning again......
Check the plug wires again to be sure the firing order is right, pull the #1 plug and get back to TDC, check the distributor setting again If yer blowing fire, there is a timing/firing order issue somewhere. It could be 180 plus one tooth out, or it could have been right on and just one tooth out. Better to start from square one than it is to pull the wrench out of the windshield. Good luck!! P.S. - I've never put a wrench through a windshield. Well, at least it wasn't my windshield! But that's another thread! |
Any luck? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you both!
IT RAN IT RAN!!!!! We're not 100% there yet but it ran and holy hell is it LOUD!!! I"m like a giddy lil school girl right now!! ( which is ok cause this is Shawna posting! :D )

I forgot to turn the rotor to face #1 plug!! I KNEW it was something simple I was missing.
Now can anyone tell me where I hook my electric choke up to?? It's running but them stall out becuase the choke closes right off |
Usually there are two terminals on the choke; a power and a ground. Ground the ground :), and for power, run a fused wire to an ignition-on circuit. There are a couple of ignition-on terminals on the fuse block. A 5 or 7 amp fuse will be sufficient. Basically, you only want power to the choke when the key is on.
we only have one terminal.... no ground....
:bowtie:
DUBIE ... WHAT KIND OF CARB IS IT??? I GET POWER FROM THE HOT WIRE THAT FEEDS MY HEI. JOHN |
I gave it power from an unufused ingnition next to the HEI. it's a Rochester 4 barrel.
Wooo Whooo!!!!
Congrats on getting her running! :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:
