I would greatly appreciate if anybody can tell what is this cable and were it belong.

kwmech 05-30-2004 02:25 AM

Looks like a choke cable to me.

Nima 05-30-2004 09:04 AM

I tought so. Thanks for writing back.

buckola 05-30-2004 09:19 AM

Its not to clear but could it be the tranny kick down cable. Wouldnt the choke cable be on the other side?

JimKshortstep4x4 05-30-2004 09:52 AM

That is the choke cable. That is the normal location for the choke cable where it comes through the firewall and the bracket on the cable bolts to the corner screw on the carb bowl cover.

It could possibly be a cruise control cable.Look on the drivers side inner fender walland see if there is a cruise control setup with the cable attached.

jhow66 05-30-2004 03:41 PM

Throttle cable(is there a extra knob on dash)

Nima 05-30-2004 06:00 PM

There is no extra knobe on the dash and I don't have cruise control. If that is choke cable, can I just leave it unhooked? or is there any disadvantage to it?
Thanks a lot .

Please don't take this the wrong way, but what is that horrible monstrosity of carburetor looking thingy atop your engine?

Nima 05-30-2004 07:19 PM

I suppose that is a 2 bbl roch carb that previous owner put on this truck which is not working well. I am in process replacing it but since I am new in this field, is taking me some time. I will post the new picture when I am done with it.
I agree with you though!. It looks ugly!.

oil fill tube

that must be a 307 or a 327 with the oil fill tube and the alt. bracket hooked to the intake. Do the heads have any holes in them for mounting the alt onto the heads?........maybe they are camel back heads?

Nima 05-30-2004 10:11 PM

Engine is 327. I don't know about intake. I know that previous owner changed the carb to 2 bbl. What is camel back intake?

Should be choke cable then (pull choke knob on dash and see if end of cable moves).Also check engine code at front of pass. side head on pad in front of it(arrow) (will read like this ##### then 2 or 3 letters--such as JH or CMJ (examples). Engine looks to be a 305CID from the color and type of valve covers. Manifold and carb looks to be 307 type. If you can get these #'s we can tell you what engine it is. Will not hurt to leave cable unhooked .

this number is on the block, on the back toward firewall: 3970010.
I didn't see any number infront of the block. There is also a number on the intake: 3877652.

greasemonkey 05-31-2004 01:01 AM

You've got a 4 bolt 350, not a 327.

jhow66 05-31-2004 10:40 AM

3970010=1968-1979 350 or 327 -2 or 4 bolt main.
3877652= 1965-1967 283 or 327
The number on front of block ( on a small pad right where head meets block-clean it off good) will tell you exact year and size.

grayw0lf 05-31-2004 05:35 PM

Do yourself a favor & be sure to get rid of that 2bbl & get a nice 4bbl. Unless gas prices are a really big concern, you will be glad that you did!

flip66 06-01-2004 02:22 PM

looks just like the choke cable on my 69. It runs throught the fire wall in what appears to be the same place as yours.
