disc brake - front crossmember swap?
 

i read somewhere that you can unbolt the front crossmember, a-arms, spindles, disc, etc... as a unit from a 73-87 (not really sure on years) and bolt it under a 67-70 to convert it to disc brakes. not 100% on the details, but thats how the story went. is there anyone out there who has done this? how did it work? i'm new to the board, so thanks for any help.

i did this, ive got a whole 85 half ton front end on my frame rails, i believe there is 6 bolts a side and 5 of each line up and the 6th is just out a bit, with a dye grinder you can line them up and get the last bolt it, it was a real easy upgrade, i highly recommend it

67cst: how much did you have to give for the whole front end? did you convert to power brakes too and if so which master cylinder/proportioning valve did you use? sorry for all the questions.

Welcome to the board from South Mississippi! Easiest way is to put booster, M/c and proportioning valve from 71/2 on it.

I did the swap also, super easy. altough I used the booster, master & prop. from the donor. did have to some fabbing for the pedal arm & linkage, but works & stops great.

Is easy. Just unbolt and remove the pitman arm from the steering box. Unbolt the flexable brake line and the bolts from the cross member to the frame. I did this as a unit with the wheels and tire still on so that I could line them up with the wheel wells and swapped it to a 47 so they pretty much fit all years. It is a weekend job and one of the easiest mods I have done.

Just did a spindle swap from a 71 chevy with Disc brakes onto my 68. All I had to do was replace my Ball joints with 71 to 84 1/2 ton joints no changing cross member or tie rod ends and everything went together fine, gotta do some brake line mods but its still pretty simple..
