Door advice / opinions needed.

When I media blast and repaint the doors for my 72 resto, should I blast out the black goo / tar looking stuff on the inside of the outer door skin?
It's in fairly good shape. I'm just wondering what the purpose of that stuff is.
What would you guys do?

Blast the goo???

I don't think you are going to have to worry about whether to blast that undercoating...blasting won't touch it. It is basically a sound deadener. If it is solid, you might leave it. So often water gets behind it and it rusts and falls off in chunks. It will take heat (carefully) and scraping to get it out. It is OK in there unless you ever have to weld where that stuff is located. Not a pretty sight. :)

I believe it also helps vibration. I wouldn't want to remove it myself. Without that, the door will probably sound cheap and hollow when shutting it.

I wish they would have coated the entire inside of my doors with it instead of just the middle. It's the only part that doesn't rust. I've never seen this stuff peel off on any that I had.
