I don't imagine anybody ever measures it, I know I haven't.

I just pound it shorter till it fits between the column and rag joint on the box. If it's a little too short, it will pull back out as you tighten the two nuts on the rag joint.

ya the only problem is that my ext. shaft wont pound back  so thats y im wondering if it already has been so i kinda wanna know what the overall length of it is :)

So it's too short right now to span from the column to the box?

Did you hammer it shorter yourself, or was it already that way?

its not to short i cannot pound it back its off my 3 in the tree column that connected to my manual steering box but the shaft will not budge

*as he slaps his forehead*

Drill out the two little plastic pins that hold the two parts of the shaft together. Look closely, they are there. Then, it will pound easily.

ok the pins i drilled out and now it wont again so im thinking its seized in there so i doused it with some WD40 and pounded it and still nothing  :banghead:

I think I'd try to heat it up a little if you have access to a torch, maybe that would get it moving??? Good luck.

All you need to do is use a BiggerFH. Actually mine wouldn't pound in either without damaging the column I did mine in my 12ton press. BTW the measurement you want is about 16". BBTW that part of the column is supposed to collaspe when your chest hits it from a collision.
