can you identify this wire for me
 

I will try to describe this the best I can, I know a picture would help and if I can get ahold of a digital camera I will go snap one. Anyways, on the heater control there is a yellow half round looking thing, there is two yellow wires running into it. What is this? I am trying to hook up my A.M. radio and the someone did a hack job on the wires, it looks like the wire that runs out of the fuse box labeled "radio" runs to that yellow thing and then is spliced and I think it ran to the old radio. Any help would be appreciated. :)

Is it an AC truck? and are you talking about the heater control switches? somebody might know what you're talking about but I need a little more info I guess.

It's a non AC truck, and yes I am talking about the heater control switches but it can only be seen if you take out the control switches and let it hang down, it is not actually on the panel of control switches. I am sure this is not the best explanation so I will get ahold of a digital camera so I can take a picture of it.

is it powerd with the dash lights? I will have to look at my wiring diagram. not sure if it is same as a '68.

Thanks 68C15, I would look at my wiring diagram but I cannot figure those stupid things out, it is like I am looking at a foreign language, I don't know how you guys read those things.

No it doesn't look to be powered by dash lights, got the camera pic will be posted tomorrow.

It sounds like someone ran a wire from the radio terminal on the fuse panel to the heater control and then fed the radio off of a junction.

The factory radio wiring was a red wire and it fed the radio separately. The heater control was fed with a fairly large brown wire, (10 gage?).

The heater blower needs a large wire and I would suggest getting another harness or refeed the heater switch with a separate feed.

That is a PO addition.Definitly not a stock item.
Whats it connected to?

I also see what might be a resistor(blue tube thing).It might be a power supply to a 6V radio?Stepping down the voltage from 12V to 6V.
If you have a meter measure the output voltage.

I bet it's something added by PO to filter out alternator noise in the radio. The blue thing is a capacitor, that and the transformer(coil) would be a filter.

JIMS70GMC is correct it's a LC (inductor-capacitor) to help filter out alternator whine and probably whine from the blower motor. Remove it, and while you're at it take out out all those crimp wire nuts as they are a source of problems. Solder the wires back together and use heat shrink tubing on your connections and you won't have any problems. :D

Davy, Ya go VIKINGS!!! They are going to pretty good this year!

If you remove it and your stereo start making a wining noise through the speakers then hook it back up. It is a noise filter.
