Headers?????!!!!
 

I have a 2WD 1971 C-10 that i just put a 350 in with a TH350, column shift.
Anyone have any suggestions on what headers will give me the least headaches on installation and not to pricey??

I had no problems installing my hooker long tube headers. They were like $200 though.

i picked up a set of long tubes for 20 bucks at the swap meet(not sure what brand). just made sure the front tube went up and over the 2nd and 3rd to clear the motor mounts

Hooker Comps....#2452 (painted, $140 through Jegs)will fit stick or auto, & the collectors dont show but about 2" below the frame rails(good on a lowered truck) :) crazyL :burnout:

I used the Summit brand (~$100) on my '71 4x4 (350/TH350) with no problems other than having to make a small notch in the header flange to clear the temperature sending unit. Both exhaust manifolds were cracked on this truck.

Did you decided to go with headers rather than find that passenger side manifold?

Yep, the Summits and i got mine from Autozone. They are the flowtech's which are a division of Hooker if i'm correct. They were like 80 bucks and i didn't have one problem putting em in.

My bro put flowtechs's on his, no prob's, I went with them also. Had no problems, cept for the 30 year old motor mounts let the # 2 header hit the frame. Changed them out. fit great, only plug I cant get to without a socket is # 6 , just use a stubby end wrench. No leaks either.

does anyone know if a set of block huggers would fit on a sb in the 67. i was thinking about picking a pair up because they are relatively cheap.

be careful about where the dump is, could be in the way of motor mount

if you have rams horns now, why switch to block huggers? you wont gain much if any in HP or torque

Block huggers will not fit! I tried them on mine and they hit the motor mounts. Try the '70's Chevelle shorties...they will clear. I really like the torque I got with long tube headers but they are too low for a slammed truck! I really noticed the change in low and mid-range torque when I lowered and switched from the Hedman long tubes to the Dynomax shorties.

do you suggest i go to long tube headers then?

I just put Hedmann Elites on my truck. They were like $300 at Summit but they have really thick flanges. my biggest problem with headers is the collectors always leak because the flanges bend. I did have to dent them for the Z-bar though. The tubes seem pretty thick too. I would also suggest Stage8 bolts, they are really nice and if you have accessories they will send you extra bolts in the length you need for free.

The hookers don't hit the ground onless your ride is slammed...and even then, it isn't much.

Hedman shorties if you are going down. otherwise Hedman long tubes. the long ones are about $120 & I believe the shorties are close to the same money. they both have thick tubes which suppress that tinny sound I have heard from the flowtechs. by all means get those Stage 8 locking header bolts. you will NEVER have a bolt come loose. I also think all the new hedmans come with a "bell" style collector instead of the old fashioned flat leaker.

I bought Hedman shorties for mine. I plan on ending up with A 4/6 or lower drop when I am finished. They were 135. delivered to my door from summit.
