whats the diff between 71 and 72 doors
This may sound like a stupid question but whats the difference between 71 and 72 chevy and/or gmc doors, and also can 72 door panels be used on 71 doors?
|
67 - 71 doors have short windoe regulator shafts...the shaft that the window crank goes on.
In 72, they had long shaft regulators, and a small screw under the wing vent to help battle the doors splitting. There may be a few minor differences due to the plastic panel, but that could probably be solved with a drill. The panels couls be swapped with the addition of the window regulator and the posability of drilling a hole or two. |
koo thanks alot

I would love to hear from someone who has addressed this problem .
I have swapped 72 panels on to pre-72 doors and it was a pain. 71 and older have captured nuts built into the door for the panel screws and 72 have holes for plastic door panel retainers. The captured nut holes are to small for the platic push clips of the 72"s and don't line up exactly. If you knock out the captured nuts and just use the hole left there the holes are way to big for the push in plastic clips. As I said I have tried and accomplished this but was not satisfied with the fitment of the panels. Who has done this and what was your process? |
I did it on mine and used I think they are called barrel nuts. Got them at the hardware store. They are just a long rubber groment type thing with a nut inside so when you tighten it, it draw the rubber in tight. Kinda the same idea as the tie down hooks that go in the bed post holes.
