Heater core today!!
I changed the heater core today. A few pictures of the change out. New heat core from GMC Paul next to the old unit and the empty spot. It took me about 2 hours, I also had to epoxy one of the mount screws back on that I b roke about 14 years ago.

So that's the a/c type. I didn't realize you had to drop the inner fender for that one, too. Jewels took some nice pics of the non-a/c unit about the same time I changed mine. They should both be in the FAQs.

I replaced my A/C type heater core several years ago. Luckily for me (?!?) I can't recall much about the procedure except that it seemed like a big PITA. Then again, I know for sure I didn't drop the inner fender. Might have made the job a bit easier!

I was doing that this sat and had to stop in my tracks cause my blower moter gasket is shredded. One I get the new one I can put it all back together.
|
I changed the blower relay on the box today also. It's nice to have a high setting again.
|
I just changed the one in my 71 suburban about a week ago, since it has ac all I had to do was pull the inner heater core box located under glove box, about five barrel screws have to be removed under the hood around the ac dog house, the only time you have to remove the right fender is when its a non ac truck, theres I believe one or two bolts that can only be removed with the fender lowered or removed.

got a pic of the blower relay switch? i dont have high on my blazer and maybe thats why.
|
This is an airconditioner blower relay. top and side. It mounts to the right side of the inside heater box.
|
cool it will make a difference in how hard the air blows correct? can i get it at autozone or where?
thanks keith |
My relay would make a sound like a spring snapping when I put the switch to HIGH. The first and second position worked fine. It really hepls the defrost the windsheild. I got it through GMC Paul when I ordered the heater core. I don't think you should have a problem getting it at AutoZone or NAPA. I didn't try there, had to wait for a core anyway.

I'm having the same problem with my heater - only low and mid, no high. I changed the resistor out this weekend but it didn't fix the problem. My next step was going to be the switch, but it sounds like I should change this relay out first. THANKS!

boy this must have been bad carma or something.I had to do mine today. It blew and fogged the whole inside of the truck, and the taste was terrible:eek:
Someone had torched a couple of holes in the fenderwell though so the bottom bolts were a snap.:D It's an AC cab, with a non AC heaterbox,go figure:crazy: Took me 45 minutes including the trip to autozone:D |
