This is a Hot Rod Truck....
This guy isn't playing around....
During a test session that tortured and killed the truck’s Turbo 400 transmission, Garrett had laid down a crazy-fast 7.70 ET at 186.9 mph in the quarter mile. Using a power/speed calculator, Garrett figures that the engine must be making at least 1,920 hp to go that fast—but considering the pass was conservative (to save the trans) and he had to lift off the throttle momentarily at half track (to regain control), he believes it is actually making well over 2,000 hp. Since the Turbo 400 had become a limiting factor, Garrett has since replaced it with an air-shifted, three-speed B&J planetary-type transmission with an AFT “two-and-a-half disc” 11-inch clutch. This set up has brought with it a whole new set of challenges, not the least of which is launching and Clutch management. However, once the set-up is dialed in, he believes the truck has the potential to go low 7 or high 6-second quarter mile ET’s, solidifying his title of World’s Fastest Street-Legal Truck and making him a legitimate threat in Pro Street—a class dominated by state-of-the-art race cars. http://ten.ewzone.com/articleImages/5036.jpg |

540 inch big block engine develops over 2,000 horsepower on alcohol. Fuel economy? About 3.5 gallons per mile. http://ten.ewzone.com/articleImages/5037.jpg |
Custom-built headers with 2-1/2-inch primary tubes dumping into Flowmaster collector mufflers with 4.5-inch outlets

The interior is all aluminum and features a funny car roll cage, fabricated aluminum “seat”, Auto Meter instruments, and not much else. That big aluminum lever you see is the hand brake Garrett uses to control the truck’s forward motion on the starting line. The transmission is always in gear—there is no neutral.

That is insane...very cool! Ken, do you have any other pics of the truck...without the dude in front of it? Better yet, have a link? :)

Garrett’s mill uses an MSD Digital 7 ignition box and MSD coil, which he says works flawlessly. Computech data logger (left) is a recent addition; it records engine rpm, transmission input shaft rpm, driveline rpm and exhaust gas temperature

I see the bed is molded to the cab too...is it steel or glass (the truck)?
|
hahaha, rage n' rat finally has someone to drag!!
my cavalier could take them both :ww: |
whats times is he running in it?
|
It's kind of confusing because most of the info in the article pertains to what the truck has done in the past. With the new motor it hasn't hooked up yet. Here's the article....
Look inside |
It went 11.90's with a 468?? Must have been a mild 468 with that kinda truck setup...I gotta show this to my buddy, because he's building his 79 up to be a 9 or 10 second truck.
