who has hei in their truck

Has anyone install an hei in their blazer? I just dropped the engine into my truck and it looks like my distributor cap is touching the firewall. It is really tight in there and was wondering just how close everyone else's is. I hope I can get the cap off

I have a HEI in my 71 and it is close but I can get the cap off..the hard part is getting the back hold downs turned to hold the cap.

i have heard of pepole moving the motor mounts up, It is something for you to get the extra room. you could use a hei top from msd that has the coil seprate this could help some

Mine was touching the firewall when I first put it in. When I put new bodymounts on it no longer touches but is still close. I have heard of other people "adjusting" the firewall with a sledge. Another option, if you want more room is a body lift and as stated before, the remote coil type dist.

I also just installed one in my Blazer. It's real close and it was real fun getting the cap & plugs on, but the cap isn't touching.. That's not to say that the 6 & 5 plug wire isn't though. It's tight, but I haven't had any issues and it starts real nice now..

I put one in my 70 Blazer when they first became popular at the wrecking yards (yeah I know, a LOOONG time ago) It fit, but just, I remember turning the rear hold downs with a long thin screwdriver, and the clearance was tight on the cap, I left off the top part that holds the wires, and that helped.

Since I had the engine out recently, I carefully hammered the firewall in a bit before the repaint. it looks good, but I havent had the distributor back in yet (a week away from that) It should all be good though.

In for one year. Boots on wires touch firewall. No problems and driven daily. moodyholler

My '69 had HEI when I bought it. The cap has about a 1/4 inch clearance. One of the wire boots in the back touches the firewall. As mentioned above, the only problem is getting to the hold downs in the back - gotta have a short screw driver.
