305 H.o.????
 

has anyone ever heard of a 305 high output cause my buddy has a friend that had an 82 camaro it had a 305 that had 5.0 (which my truck has thats why im asking) cause every other 305 ive seen is a 5.3

any input would be great?!?!?

305ci motors are 5.0L, and some camaros came with 5.0L high output motors, which is just a 305 with a little more power.

the new 325ci motors and the older 327s come out to 5.3L.

The high output package on an 86 Z-28 had a dual snorkle air cleaner if memory serves. I haven't heard of one in a 73-87 yet but I am wrong frequently.

Yep..what destructo said...305 is a 5.0... the H.O. part didnt mean a whole lot more than marketing really. some people claim the H.O. had better heads, but the heads on any of the 305 H.O.s Ive ever pulled apart are the same casting # as any other early 80s 305 4 barrel Ive pulled apart

The H.O.'s did have more compression than normal 305s and a hair bigger cam.

what kind of numbers does a Normal truck 305 put out?

has anyone ever heard of these in our truck cause my truck has to much power to be stock cause i drove my friends which had less miles than mine and mine has way more power

For the 1984 Sales brochure I have. There are two 305's LF9 (California emission spec) and LF3 (non emissions California spec)

Type: V8 OHV

SAE Net Horsepower: LE9 160 @ 2000 rpm LF3 155 @ 4000 rpm

Cb could have alot to do with gearing, if your truck is 3.73 gear & his is 2.90, yours is going to feel more powerful taking off & around town

Not to pick on civics but they have really low gears and still don't feel any of the torque. I could tell a decent difference going from a rear that had 2.73s to 3.08s.

Do you have any specs on an 84 350?

I looked at an 86 Blazer with 305. The guy said it was the HO and the same engine put in the monte SS that year. Special ordered he said. I didn't buy it.

Never heard of a 305HO, your buddy might be referring to the crossfire 305, which had 2 tbi uints on them, I know these were available in some early to mid 80's camaros, vettes, and montes

They did put the 305 HO in the Monte SS. They DID NOT put it in any truck....

can neone tell me how to identify my drive train so i can figure out y is so darn quick for a little 305????

With out looking and decoding what you have you could have. It could be any of the sbc family, 327 - 350 - 283 - 265 - 305 - 400 or whatever someone put in there so it could have a 305 HO but is unlikely that it is.

http://www.Mortec.com can be a pretty good friend. There is a casting number on the driver side head next to the firewall where the engine and transmission bolt up at. That will tell you what you have. If its newer it will have 5.0 SGI or 5.7 SGI. If you have trouble finding it http://www.mortec.com/location.htm and the casting numbers page http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm

I use the last 3 numbers and goto the tool bar and use the find option with the last 3 digits to the engine code like 010 for a 3970010 (350) makes it easier and you don't have to look down that whole list or miss it.

Transmission will depends on the shape of the pan, number of bolts, if it has a modulator valve and where its located.

Any pictures of anything you cant figure out will help a lot also.

Also for California spec 350 was the LT9 but is rated at 155 horsepower @ 4000 rpm and 240 torque @ 2800 rpm

Your Differential (rear end) is most likely a 10 bolt 8.5 (28 spline axles), you can also decode those with the help of some other members. But it doesn't really help much if the gears have been changed out for a different ratio.

I have a couple of very interesting photos related to this subject if someone could post them for me.

ok i know this it has OD which means th700r4 it appears to be stock motor but u never know i cant get to the casting numbers right away cause i have it in storage right now but got a chance to drive a day before i qeustioned the motor it says 5.0 305 on the radiator support stock sticker it is a silverado 82. i think it may have been a california truck cause jve never EVER seen that many vacuum lines and before i changed out the stock exaught for duals it had two catylac converters and 2 mufflers its got all the original smog pump and emmisions so unless some just ripped it out of a cali car whole then again u never know ive seen stupider stuff done well that is wat i can remember off the top of my head please tell me if i helped u ne my lil bowtie

What would I would like to see is the paper work on the truck. I've seen the pictures so far, wouldn't mind seeing some more if they are available. I'm still not decided about it just yet.

does anyone know where i could buy one of those dual snorkel air cleaners?

Im pretty sure gm doesnt make them anymore, might try to find a 83-85 Camaro or Monte Carlo to get one.
