www.ebay.com and do smart search. license plate and your state search in header and body. I paid $25 for my '68 Hemisfair plates NOS.

superchevy 05-31-2002 10:28 PM

Ihave ''66, '67, 68, '69, '70, '71, and '72 Texas Dealer's plates.
They only issue 1 dealer plate per vehicle in Texas, so you can leave your front bumper with no plate for a nice, clean look.SC

I was looking for a Year of manufacture Texas 69 Dealer plate to eliminate the front plate on my e-type.
I was told that I could do this and checked with the license dept, and they said I couldn't do this because I was not a dealer.
Superchevy have you done this and are you a dealer?

Longhorn Man 05-31-2002 11:41 PM

Your state may be a pain in the @ss on this. I know I went to a wrecking yard localy, and found a set of perfect (note, not near perfect...PERFECT) 1970 Ohio plates. When I went to the counter, they would not give them to me.
He said it was illegal to sell them, so I said I would relieve him of them for no cost, but pay full price for the parts I was getting. (I always chew them to the bottom price, and they know I will) He said no, took the plates, and cut them in 1/2 on the spot.
Some states will not let you get vintage tags. :( even just for show reasons.

superchevy 05-31-2002 11:42 PM

Hutch,
Yes, and yes.
You do not have to be a dealer in the state of Texas in order to use a dealer plate for year of manufacture of 25 years or older vehicles. The State is now allowing what was available in the license plate department during the year of manufacture to be used.
You have to declare antique or "classic" status.
If you are looking for a '69 dealer plate, and how to register it, contact:

I paid $20 for my 70' plates. I had to take them with me when I registered my truck. My regular plates are under the seat at all times. I have 2 registrations of course. :bowtie:

OhioDan 06-01-2002 07:00 AM

In Ohio, you can run same year plates. All you have to do is find a set(at least one plate) found mine at a swap meet ($10.00), for your year. They must be in good repair. Take them to License registration, and they'll register them to your truck. They'll also give you one antique/historical plate that must be kept with the vehicle at all times. You can run your same year plates front and back, but you have to keep the historical plate in/on the vehicle. Just my $.02

Longhorn Man 06-01-2002 04:58 PM

Dan, is that good for limited use, or daily driver?
I tried to do it as a daily driver and they laughed at me.

longhornmail, thats why you stick them under yuor shirt and walk out.

Here's the web site for the Ohio BMV.

Check for yourself and see if you don't come up with the same thought/ feeling that I did. ( can use same year plates on daily driver?)

Randy70C-10 06-02-2002 09:18 AM

Wow, some of you guys have to live with harsh rules. Most of the vintage vehicles in VA have same-year plates. They can be on daily drivers to as long as you have a current state inspection.

Randy70C-10 06-02-2002 09:32 AM

Tony, are you just collecting them? I don't have a pair, but I do have "one" nice one that I'll send you for $5. (to cover mailing) It's very clean and no bends or dings. Email for address if interested. Also, it's a VA plate.
