Length of Driveshaft?

Going to install a new 350 in a '73 short  stepside with a 700r4. Does anyone know the length of driveshaft I will need? Would be nice to have it made before I start the process.

some shops measure the length diffrently. Its best to call the shop you plan to use and ask how they measure it. You don't want to order the wrong size.

I went from a TH350 to a 700R4. I did not need my driveshaft legnth modified. As long as the 350 has the 9" tailshaft, I am pretty sure the legnth should be close enough (3/4" shorter than a 700R4 I believe)

i had a drive shaft made last winter for another truck project of mine....the machine shop here that makes custom drive shafts measures from center of rear u-joint to center of front u-joint to determine the length they need.

I hear you also slide the yoke into the trans all the way, and pull it out one inch (with the truck resting on the suspension).

A Turbo 350 with the 9" tailshaft housing (used in '73-up Chevy LWB trucks & Suburbans, maybe some SWB's too) is the same length as a 700-R4. Except if the 700 came from a Corvette.
