door window question
this is just a question that came up in a discusion with some friends of minethe other day while drinking beer in the shop after hours, anyway are there diffrent thicknesses of door glass between the 77 to 82 and 83 to 87 it seems to me as a kid i had heard this. from what i can tell they will all interchange but one while fit tight in the side tracks and is hard on the regulators please any help will be appreciated, there is a beer purchase for the guys riding on this. and trust me i dont want to have to pay that!!!!!

I think the change in the glass thickness came with the front end change in 1981, in order to help lighten the trucks up a bit. Do I get a beer if I'm right?

Did I miss the answer to the glass thickness question?? The answer could explain why some guys don't like power windows. If the glass is too thick for the tracks, the window motor will have a hard time pushing the window glass. Again, does anyone know if there really are different thickness door glass??

only glass difference i know is the back ones they made a thick and then style

dr pepper: enless the windows have been changed the glass and track were corasponding
bodydropped: i really dont know this to be a fact yet but 60-66nut maid a good point that makes since if you have any factual info please let me know thanks 86 gmg |
they did make 2 different ones because my 78 had a then one and i bought a thick one since i wanted a none tinted one but i ended up buyin another thick one not sure what years they came in but my 82 had a thin one with a 1 peice gasket and i have a 77 at work with a 1 peice and it was thick but my 78 has the 2 peice and it is thin and as for door regulators im runnin a regulator out of a 78 with 83 door glasses and havent had a problem with them

Thickness .
There are two different thicknesses . I think it was in 81 when they went to a thinner side glass . They also changed the vent glass . The later trucks with the thinner glass has a shorter vent glass by about 3/4 to 1 inch . If you look at the top of the vent glass rubber seal you will be able to see the difference . They arent that much different but if you have one of each ,you can really feel the difference . Frank

The door glass and vent glass changed in 1981. There are also different rear glass thickness.

sorry to bring this back up but i have come to realize that when i changed the wing window in my truck it was from an older truck it bolted in just fine no problems or major adjusting do you thing this is why the window dont roll up and down correctly?
my truck is an 86 and the wing window is like a 77 or so |
My '86 has a vent ("wing") window in it from a truck from the 1970s. The only difference I noticed was there was one less mouning point. My window works fine.
