Any suicide doors opening out their!
I have been thinking of this for awhile now and with my new shop at home I have the room for bigger projects. I have the skills and have way more tools than it could ever need but still want to see a few first. I have checked around for hinge kits and found some good stuff at http://www.*****************/ They have full kits and the bead bolt kits as well. I am sure their are alot of other places out their so lets see some pic's and links. If you have them some pro's and con's would help as well.

64 lookers and nothing to add! Is their another section I should post this in? I am new to the board so I have not found all the right avenues yet. Things should get better once the search is back up.

Make sure you use the correct hinge or you will not achieve a full 45 degree swing. A couple other members found this out the hard way.
Me I used a hinge off of a Jeep Grand cherokee mid 70's where the door swings out from the fender not into it. Pics should help. The pics show what I accomplished with about 4 hrs fab work, then my son was born and I never touched it again. Been 16 months now. I will finish someday  |

NSANE68!! Off to a great start! You did mean to say full 90* open right? 45* does not seam like enough. As far as hinges I was looking into a full kit they seam to allow for a bit more adjustment and seam to be over built. Two things I look for, but next time I am at the pick-n-pull I will look around abit at the jeeps. What kind of latch do you plan on using? Are you going to add a dead bolt latch as well. I am thinking I will add electric bead bolt latches with pin switches activated in the full closed mod that will turn off a small LED on the dash for a little piece of mind when I am flying down the freeway at 120+.

That kit is the one they had probs with. Look at my second pic, see how the hinge has that curve bend. The guys that used the kit like the one you show had to modify it quite a bit, and yes I ment 90 the kit you show will only get ya a 45 though without mods

Sweat that the kind of info I need. Any more picks of your truck on the board any where? I think I may hit the P-N-P on Saturday. Don't feel bad about not getting to your truck in a while. Mine has been sitting for about two years now but should be out in the work bay of the shop in the next few months. I have one project to complete then a major orginizing of the shop is need to get the truck out and start. So for now it is just collect parts and info so when that day comes it will all be layed out.
In this pic if you look real close under that storage rack you can just see the front of my hood. Had to clean out my 10x20 storage unit last month and that is were it all ended up. Kevin |
[thread hijack on] Nice EB, how much is the front narrowed, or is it just picture angle & what n20 & oil levels you using with the FOX struts? I have a customers EB coming in to narrow the whole thing and the FOX struts which I tune a lot of just curious what yours are at?[thread hijack off]

Not a problem~ It is 20" at the grill and 10" at the A & B post area (if the posts were still their) and then 20" at the gate. I have not filled the shocks yet so I am no help at all for that. Here is a pic of the front.

And just to show off here is the EB before it was parted out and the buggy begain. This is the kind of 4x4 toys I build in my play time!

Kevin, I wish I could get my dog to do that. It is embarassing to have him relieve himself like a female dog. I will print a picture of that F**d and hold it in front of him so he will get the idea.
BTW...love the buggy! |
Well I went to the local pick n pull today and they only had 1 jeep waggy and it was an 83 and only had teh 45* door hinges on it. I will do some reserch and find out what years do what.
NSANE68~ Are your hinges thick steel? In the picks they have a look of formed sheet metal type hinges that is why I was leaning tward the suicidedoors product. But after looking at the Waggy ones today I see they are real beefy. Do you have any pic's on what you did for adjustment? Thanks, Kevin |
Rokcrln - That Bronco is F-n NASTY! I like it as a buggy too but I would have donated my left nut for that truck. Nice articulation there!!!
L8R - Joe |
Thanks, I sold most of the parts off it and used the $ for tubbing and parts to build the buggy. I have been building custom rigs for people for years and doing roll cages, lifts, lowering, tube chasies, custom suspention.... Well I felt it was time to build myself a full custom rig. Then I just bought a super clean stock Bronco for the street.

NSANE68!!!, that's a "J" series Cherokee right?
|
Back in the mid 70's did they have cherokee's or were they waganiers? I may be thinking the wrong vehical all together
Kevin |
In the 70's there was the Cherokee and The Wagoneer. They both look identical but the cherokee's had only 2 doors. The wagoneers all had 4. Then there were the J-Series pickups....but thats another story. I've owned my fair share of Jeeps and I think that the doors on my "newer" Cherokee opened quite a bit farther that my "old" cherokee. By old I mean the old "S" series ones. The "newer" one was an 87 and the doors opened well close to perpendicular to the body. Wish I had one left, I just sold the last of the ten Jeeps that I had.

Thanks that makes sence since a two door you have to clime over the front to get to the back. It was a four door I looked at yesterday.

BTW, what nsane said. Save your money on that "kit" and get some Jeep hinges. First pic is with kit ( = hard to get into), second is with Jeep hinges ( = lots of swing). |
Yes the jeep hinge is the way I will go. When I first looked at Nsane's I thought they were punched out of sheet metal and would not be stronge enough. Once I saw the waggy one's yesterday I see now what they are. With the toys in my garage/shop I could built the kit ones very easy but I would rather spend my time doing other things. Any more pics out their?
