8 or 6 3/4 inch balancer
I was told that the 6 3/4 balancers are the for small blocks and the 8's are use on big blocks however I have seen 8s on small blocks so heres the quesitons. Does it matter which one you use? Do you have to do anything special to use a 8 on a small block?
Thanks |
The timing pointer might be an issue. There could be interference.

Both sizes work on the sbc. My truck, with the 300 hp 350, had a factory 8" balancer on it. The bigger balancer is supposed to do a better job of damping. I switched mine out for a 6-3/4" Streetdampr, which should be better than an old 8" with dried-out rubber.
You will need a different timing pointer. I got an adjustable and set it after degreeing the cam. |
If you are in need of a 6 3/4" balancer, I've got one that is practically new that you can have for free. I tried selling it a few months ago, but there were no takers. I'll be in Mountain View on Monday and Tuesday.
