Removing ignition cylinder - a little help needed
 

Need to remove & replace the ignition lock cylinder on the 67 - two reasons...I am getting ready to paint the dash and the new lock cylinder matches the doors now.

But......after turning the key to ACC, pressing the release through the small hole, I cannot get the little bugger to budge. Any thoughts?

try pushing the button before you turn the key. so with the key in the off position put you paperclip or whatever ur using in the hole and push then turn the key to acc and it should come right out

Once you push the paperclip in, I believe you have to turn the key a bit past ACC before it will come out.

Yes, you do have to turn it a little past the ACC position. I had a heck of a time removing one a couple weeks ago but persistance payed off.

sometimes you have to yell bad words at it and threaten to kick it's grill in.

Thanks...had a list of items that I wanted completed today....because I wanted to paint the dash and have it ready for assembly tomorrow...late in the afternoon...

I tried off and on for three weeks. Finally I put the key off,inserted the clip, and here is the key for me, I moved the key around alittle until I actually felt the little pin move and felt the spring pressure push the clip back out. When I knew I was on the pin I rotated too and then a little past acc. and bigger then duky the darn thing came out. I have a Cadillac stearing column with the key located in it, so I removed the dash key trim and installed a vacuum guage there.

I thought a 67 ignition switch didn't have an acc position.

when putting in the new one use some graphite on it

I used a big screw driver to pop the front off....then cut the keylock off with the chop saw. now it starts with a screw driver...oh you wanted to keep the lock set you have.....Opps sorry I can't help

Thanks for pointing out the ACC item....I could not remember either...but this one definitely has ACC.

Don't use a paper clip, instead, use a small allen wrench. (I learned that here) I had no luck with a paper clip as it kept bending but the allen wrench is rigid and you can press in hard.

I think a little WD 40 might help too.

Like the others said, it takes time and patience to get it out. I tried and tried on mine for about 20 minutes. I am not shure exactly what I did, but when I did it, it came out like I wasnt even trying. I second the motion to use an allen wrench, that is what I used.

How do you remove without key?

That would be with the assistance of a drill.....

...but you still have to get the old one out.....hmmmm....7/16" drill bit should work just fine! :)
