My 72 caught on fire
My 72 caught on fire, I can’t believe it. I had th car running outside for a good 20-30 minutes while I was inside. I was trying to let it run for a while, I don’t drive this truck much. Its seems like there was a short in the wires from the fuel pump or sending unit. I just bought this truck too. Everything inside is gone, I am so discourage now I don’t even know if I want to finish this project. I was so excited on finishing this truck my next mod was going to remove the old tank and replace in the rear. How ironic.

Im sorry man.. I'd be very discouraged also.. but don't give up. Its alot of damage but its fixable. You have tons of support here to bring the truck back.
dude, that really sucks,if i was you,id just sit on the curb and cry,did you put it out yourself,or did the firedepartment put it out,i truly feel for ya,i had one catch fire once, only you were luckier then i ,as your tank did not blow, that is why my tank is in the back of my 72,and every truck i build will be in the back, once again, sorry
oh my god that's terrible, such a nice truck; internally ruined. it looks good from the outside and in the engine bay so i'd rebuild it. i hope insurance gives you a little money.
Oh dayum
I feel the pain lookin at those pics, my condolences, it sure looked nice before. I had a 69 Super Bee catch fire on me after I banged a tree, so I do know the despair you feel, wow, what a flashback.
It so happen my dad was here so we put it out with the waterhose. I did want to cry i still want to cry. This car is getting put on the back burner for now. I dont even know where to start. I was just about to purchase another tank. THis blows.
That was a nice looking truck. You are discouraged now but there isn't anything you can replace or repair. You can start with the fuel tank relocation. This will give you a chance to personalize this very nice truck.
Looks like the underhood light still works!
That sucks bro! Good luck with it....
Sorry to for the fire, your truck still looks good.
It looks bad but it's definately fixable!!! I can get you started on your re-build, I have a complete un-cut wiring harness with ignition switch and key that I just pulled from a 72, I'll ship it to your door for $50, it's nice!! Too bad you're so far, because I have 4 gas tanks laying around.
Hmmmmm, noticed that it's an AC cab, my harness came from a non-a/c cab. Are they different?
Man I'm sorry. Gut out the interior and acess the damage. Maybe it'll be a little more encouraging. The engine bay looks ok?
What a mess to clean up! Good luck!
Okay i cleaned her up a bit, can she be saved?

Did it blister any paint on the roof or back of cab? It doesn't look like it got hot enough to warp the cab but you never know. Sorry to hear about your loss.
very sorry to hear that dude
That sure sucks but i know how you feel i had a 65 that caught on fire 1 week after i bought it. .Don't let get ya down
I'm going to check the wiring in my truck. I just remembered when I was in high school, my step-dad had one of our trucks and it caught fire too.
dude, that sucks.
I say park it in the garage for a month and then see if you still want to sell it. Sad thing is, it's still worth more than any of my trucks were...hell, it's worth more than all the trucks i've had combined. :( |
:( i'm so sorry! :( i hope you can salvage her. Did you find out what the source of the fire was for sure?
Man, that sucks Big Time :whine: .A similar thing happened to me with my 71 burb except the fire started under the hood, just about got her all back together. You are doing the right thing dont get to discouraged, she can be put back together.
Rebuild it!!! With all the damage it still looks better than mine!! Seriously though, I feel for you. The dreaded "F" word scares me.
Was it insured, don't do any more to it until the insurance adjusters have looked at it.
Feel for ya......but don't give up yet, one step at a time! At least it isn't parked in New Orleans right now! |
