Foot starter
Hi Y'all.
I'm a new member. I have a '58 3/4 ton with a foot starter. About a month ago it spun one of the rod bearings and I'm thinking of replacing the 235 6 cyl with a small block V-8. However, I really like the foot starter and was wondering if anyone knows if I can retain the foot starter while swapping the motor? Thanks, Eric |
Holy crap! A 3/4 ton with a 235? That would never fly in todays world :whine: .
sorry for the hijack. |
Welcome to the fourms EricOlsen!
The foot starter should just be an electric switch (at least my ol 46 was this way). Therefore its only a matter of getting the wire to the starter/cyl. I would think it would be easier to KEEP it as a foot start. |
in my '59 3/4 ton the foot starter was basically a pedal with a mechanical linkage that pushed a button on the starter. you could find a starter button and mount it where the starter pedal was. it would be wired between the ignition and the starter.

The starters are not interchangable that I know of... so the switch would have to be wired without the mechanical device that touches down on the starter to run the solenoid. my 2-cents worth rico_bob

I have seen the conversion you want , but for thr life of me I can't remember where it was. They do make one and if I find it again I'll post where. it was a conversion for a modern GM starter to be able to continue using the pedal and on off switch setup.
