this just in from the "i feel stupid" files
Hey guys, I just spent the afternoon trying to use 6 cylinder engine towers to mount a 350 vortec motor in my 70 c 10 chassis. Once, I stopped and thought about what I was trying to do I just shook my head in shame.
I need suggestions for v 8 mounting engine towers, I have the old stye 3 bolt rubber pads already on the 350 (new old style mounts not the original dry rotted). Do any of the vendors repop v 8 towers? Towers are the steel part that attaches to the rubber engine mounts and to the rails of the truck. Any suggestions and part numbers appreciated. |

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . J/K with ya, I would have lost it trying to figure it out ;) |
Re: this just in from the "i feel stupid" files
you should have still been able to bolt in the motor using the 6 cyl stand the motor will be Lower I think. unless they are from a 292.

Re: this just in from the "i feel stupid" files
i got a 327 bolted to the 6 banger stands all it did was move the motor back
wait i cant remember what mounts are on the motor   i will look in the mornin |
Re: this just in from the "i feel stupid" files
What kind of transmission do you have?
|
Re: this just in from the "i feel stupid" files
I have a late model 5 speed that was behind a 4.3 in a s-10.
i think that my shifter is going to be real close to my seat or I may possibly have to have buckets due to the shifer being on the back end of the tranny. but what does that have to do with this thread? |
Re: this just in from the "i feel stupid" files
I used the 6 banger stands on mine also, 98 vortec and used 68 327 mounts on motor and a turbo 400 trans mount on the 4l60:)

Re: this just in from the "i feel stupid" files
The location of your engine stands is going to affect where your transmission crossmember needs to be mounted. The inline 6 stands mount farther back than the V8 stands. Considering that your shifter is so far back, it sounds like you would be better off moving the engine forward on V8 stands.

Re: this just in from the "i feel stupid" files
I thought the stands were the same, just the location was different.Am I wrong on this?
|
Re: this just in from the "i feel stupid" files
The stands are different. The V8 stands have a curve to them when viewed from above, but the I6 stands are straight.
|
Re: this just in from the "i feel stupid" files
Yeah, they`re different. The V6 will sit lower on the I6 towers. It`s best to mount the V8 forward in it`s intended position. The fan and shroud will be correct and you`ll have more room for distributor, especially HEI.

Re: this just in from the "i feel stupid" files
thanks for all the replies,
i have been trying to mount in the v 8 position so i could get the shifter as far forward as possible. i may have to have a "c" shaped shifter formed to have a middle part of a seat or i may have to have 2 buckets only looking like the shifter will be about nine inches back from the front cab mount. |
Re: this just in from the "i feel stupid" files
Seems like there is 3 1/2-3/4" diff in the two positions if I recall, the six stands will not work in the front holes. Brian
